1. John¹ Downes married Margaret Hawkins, daughter of Ralph Hawkins and Margaret; 1st husband.
He was a carpenter.
Margaret Hawkins married John Brown; 2nd husband.

•     2.  i.   Charles² Downes, born before 1687; married Mary Clayton.


•       ii.   John Downes was born circa 1693. He married Henrietta Maria ___ before 1721. He died in May 1758.


•       iii.   James Downes was born circa 1695. He married Mary. He died in Apr 1725.
  He was a carpenter.


•       iv.   Hawkins Downes was born circa 1700. He married Deborah Baynard, daughter of Thomas Baynard and Esther. He died in 1756. He was buried at St. John's Parish, Caroline Co., MD.


•       v.   Henry Downes was born on 28 Feb 1708. He married Frances Noble, daughter of Robert Noble and Mary, on 12 Nov 1731. He died on 30 Oct 1771 at age 63.

Generation Two


2. Charles² Downes (John¹) was born before 1687. He married Mary Clayton in 1739 at Wye Chapel, St. Paul's Parish. He died in Dec 1774.

•     3.  ii.   John Downes, born circa 1710; married Sophia King.


•       iii.   Edward Downes was born circa 1710.

Sophia King married John Beck; 1st Husband.

•       ii.   Charles Downes married Ann Wrench. He died in Mar 1787.

4. Edward⁴ Downes (John³, Charles², John¹) died in Dec 1796.
His wife may have been Elizabeth Wright daughter of Nathaniel Wright & Sarah Emory. He resided at Queen Anne's Co., MD. He left a will on 30 Oct 1796 at Queen Anne's Co., MD; codical 12 Nov 1796, proved 13 or 15 Dec 1796.
Known children of Edward⁴ Downes include:

•     5.  i.   Sarah⁵ Downes, married William Carmichael.


•       ii.   Charles W. Downes.


•       iii.   Elizabeth Emory Downes.

Generation Five


5. Sarah⁵ Downes (Edward⁴, John³, Charles², John¹) married William Carmichael, son of Richard Bennett Carmichael and Katherine Murray, on 15 Dec 1803. She died on 22 Feb 1817.
William Carmichael was born on 27 Jan 1775 at Maryland. He died in Nov 1853 at age 78. He was an attorney. He was a farmer.
