George BUTLER (GEORGE1) was chr in 1796, and died 1880 and buried in Sleaford. He married Frances TWIBLE February 08, 1820 in Thorpe Salvin, Yorkshire, England, daughter of James & Phoebe. Frances was chr 27 July 1797 in Thorpe Salvin and she died in 1885 (buried in Sleaford)

ii. George, b. Abt. 1823, Redford (Retford? Ruttford?). Notts., England; d. May 19, 1895, Sleaford, Lincs.

iii. Alice, b. Abt. 1824, Welbeck Norton, Nottingham; d. February 08, 1886, Sleaford, Lincs. Alice was unmarried. In the 1881 census she was living with her widowed mother at 36 West Banks, New Sleaford. She is buried in Sleaford

vi. Francis, chr 1829 in Bilsthorpe Notts

iv. Annie, b. Abt. 1835, Sleaford, Lincs (or Brant Broughton, Lincs.); d. July 17, 1884 and is buried in Sleaford with her sister Alice. She married Henry WRIGHT

Edward BUTLER (GEORGE1) was born 1806 in Gamston Nottinghamshire, and died Bef. 1881. He married Maria RICHARDSON, daughter of John & Rebecca. Maria was baptised in Great Sturton Lincs in 1813

In the 1851 census Edward & Maria were in Well village, Lincs., where Edward was a game keeper.

In the 1881 census, Maria is a widow, living at Buttons Farmhouse in Wadhurst Sussex with her niece, Caroline WEATHERHOGG (age 17, born Tumby Lincs) [note on Weatherhog: Ontario Canada marriage: 4155-91 George Alfred FREE, 23, farmer, Canada, St. Vincent twp., s/o Robert & Ann, married Ruth WEATHERHOG, 21, England, St. Vincent, d/o John & Ann, witn: "Minster's family", 7 Oct 1890 at Thornbury. When FreeBMD is checked for birth of Ruth Weatherhog - March 1870 Glanford B. 7a pg 664. Glanford B. is Glanford Briggs which is a registration district in Lincolnshire, in the Scunthorpe area)

iii. John, b. Abt. 1849. Nothing more known about him

iv. Alice, b. June 1850, Well, Lincolnshire; d. May 20, 1929, Sleaford, Lincs. She married George BUTLER, son of George BUTLER and Mary DAY.

v. Edwin, b. Abt. 1853, Well, Lincolnshire. He married Matilda J. BLINKS

vi. Rebecca, b. Abt. 1853, Well Lincolnshire. She married Richard BLINKS

 

Generation No. 3

George BUTLER (GEORGE2, GEORGE1) was born Abt. 1823 in Redford (Retford? Ruttford?). Notts., England, and died May 19, 1895 in Sleaford, where he is buried. He married Mary DAY Bef. 1851. Mary died in 1896 at the age of 77 and she too is buried in Sleaford.

In 1851 (on daughter’s birth registration) George is a publican in Sleaford; he is also a publican in 1876.

In the 1881 census they are on Mareham Lane in Old Sleaford

In the 1891 census they are on Marehead Lane in Old Sleaford (same street, different transcriptions?)

Children of George & Mary are:

i. George, b. Abt. 1854, Sleaford, Lincs; m. Alice BUTLER who was born in Well Lincs about 1850, d/o Edward BUTLER & Maria RICHARDSON. Alice died in 1929 at the age of 78 yrs, and she is buried in Sleaford

In both the 1881 & 1891 censuses this family is at 2 Watergate in New Sleaford & George is a butcher.

 

ii. Mary Elizabeth (or Polly), b. December 12, 1851 in Sleaford (birth reg: Sleaford 7a390 March 1852Q) and she married Alexander FRANCIS, 1874, Sleaford, Lincs. Alexander was chritened in New Sleaford on 28 Feb 1849 , s/o Edward & Mary

In the 1881 census thery were at 23 Carre St. in New Sleaford & Alex is a commerical traveller

In the 1891 census they are in Chatteris Cambrigeshire, and Alex’s occupation looks to be seedman (?)

 

iii. Alice, b. Abt. 1856; m. George WELLSMAN, December 26, 1876, New Sleaford. Witnesses at the marriage were B. STEPHENSON & F. BUTLER. George was a resident of Reading Berks at the time of his marriage.

In 1881 they were 14 Belle Vue Pl in Leeds, England and George was an iron monger's assistant.

In 1891 he was a butcher and they were living at 90 Carholme Rd.,St. Mary le Wigford, Lincolnshire. With the family in 1891 is Kate E. STEPHENSON, age 5, born Lincoln, Lincoln

 

Annie BUTLER (GEORGE2, GEORGE1) was born Abt. 1835 in Sleaford, Lincs (or Brant Broughton, Lincs.), and died July 17, 1884. She married Henry WRIGHT.

In 1876 Henry gives his occupation as commercial traveller.

In the 1881 census the family is in Nottingham at 5 Allan Terrance, St. Marys parish although both of their children were born in Sleaford (prior to 1881). Henry’s occupation is still commercial traveller.

10. Rebecca BUTLER (EDWARD2, GEORGE1) was born Abt. 1853 in Well Lincolnshire. She married Richard BLINKS 1878 in London England (marr reg Dec 1878 Islington 1b 498) , son of Richard BLINKS and Eleanor POILE.

- 1881 census: Richard was a journeyman butcher, 56 Wadden Rd., Croydon, Surrey

- 1891 census: Rebecca was in New Sleaford visiting the Butler family, while Richard was a butcher in Croydon, Surrey - 41 Church St.

Children of Rebeca & Richard are:

i. Edward Butler BLINKS, b. Abt. 1880, Ticehurst, Sussex. In 1901 he was a butcher in Fiehunt Sussex. He married in 1902 (reg Sept 1902 Farnham 2a 225) possibly to Florence Hilda Lowman or Minnie Maud Nicholls but this has not been checked yet.

ii. Eleanor BLINKS, b. Abt. 1881, Croydon Surrey. She was 2 months old in the 1881 census. In 1891 census, called Nellie, in New Sleaford with her mother, visiting the Butlers. In 1901 she was a book keeper, and was living with Rebecca (mother) & Edward
