MOORE FAMILY

Two of my great-great-great grandparents were Robert & Margaret Moore
MargaretMoore
Margaret Moore, d. 1875, Cranbrook Ontario

Robert MOORE born in Ontario about 1831. He married Margaret (probably maiden name MOORE) about 1849.

They are in the 1851 census in Toronto twp., with their 2 year old son Samuel. Also living with them is Joseph MOORE, age 73, widower

On 27 Dec 1865 they purchased lot 33, con 13, Grey twp, Huron Co from Samuel HANNAH for $350. On the deed Robert Moore was "of Grey twp., Huron Co". On 19 March 1867, Robert signed an agreement with Thomas LEE, lumber merchant of McKillop twp, for $50 to sell 359 trees "smallest to be two feet across", over 4 years. See microfilm GS-1681 for both deed (file#357/8) and 'tree' agreement (file#544).

Margaret died in 1875 and is buried at Knox Presb. (Cranbrook), con 11, lot 15, Grey twp., age on tombstone = 42. Death reg # 3274-1875 gives cause of death as miscarriage, and age as 42 years, 9 months. Dr. HOLMES of Brussels was the physician

Robert was still alive in 1875, but in the 1881 census all of his children are either on their own, or with other relatives. There was a Robert MOORE who died 10 Jan 1879 in Yorkville (death reg 18399-79) - this Robert was age 49 yrs + 2 months and born in Canada which fits what we know about "our" Robert. He died of contusion of the brain from a fall. There is an account of the accident in The Mail of 11 Jan 1879 that describes Robert MOORE as a farmer, living in the 2nd con of York twp. The accident occurred while threshing as it appears Robert climbed on top of the machine and for one reason or another, then fell off of it..... This still needs a bit more research
