Hampton Shiver was born 14 May 1830 in Dooly County, Georgia, a son of James and Polly SHIVER.

He was married 20 Jul 1854 to Mentena Ann SHIVER, daughter of Daniel and Mentena SHIVER. This marriage produced 3 known children:

1. Frances J. Elizabeth, b. 15 Sep 1855. (Married Mr. McRAE).
   
2. Robert Jefferson, b. 4 Mar 1858, d. 26 Sep 1947. (Married Susan Georgann SPELL).
   
3. Wade Hampton, b. abt. 1860.
