Joseph Putnam HOWELL was born 28 Apr 1834 in Alabama. Amanda Melvina TICE who was born 7 Apr 1833, DeKalb Co, GA, was married to Joseph on 3 Jul 1854 in Ittawambi Co, MS. They moved to Texas before 1858 when their second child Mary M was born. Joseph enlisted 29 February 1862 in Company D, 11th Texas Infantry, Confederate States Army, in Mount Pleasant, Titus Co, TX. According to the pension application records of Mrs. A. M. Howell, he served until the end of the Civil War. They were the parents of these children:
By 1870 the family had moved to Greenville, Hunt Co, TX where Joseph raised stock and farmed. Joseph died 23 Jan 1897 and is buried in the Josephine Cemetery, Josephine, Collin Co, TX. When Amanda applied for a CSA Widows's pension in 1909 she was living in Quinlin, Hunt, Co, TX. The Pension Application #15649 was approved 31 Aug 1909. According to family tradition Amanda is buried in the Josephine Cemetery. There is a birthdate on the double tombstone but no death date. |

James Kindrick HOWELL, son of Joseph Putnam HOWELL and Amanda Melvina TICE, was born 19 Oct 1862. In 1884 he married Sula MOORE. They had two daughters:
on 25 Sep 1897 at Farmersville, Collin Co, TX, he married Mary Connie MURCHISON, daughter of Rory MURCHISONn and Elizabeth GILL. She was born on 2 Apr 1872 at Collin Co, TX.
fter James and Connie were married they lived in Farmersville. In 1908 the family bought a farm in Hunt County two miles south of Quinlan. Janes died 11 Mar 1926. Connie lived on the farm for several years. About 1937 she started living with her children. Eventually she lived with her daughter Josie in Tyler. After Josie died in 1957 she moved to Greenville and lived with her daughter Lizzie until her death 20 Jan 1959. James and Connie are buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Quinlan, TX. |
