REPORTS ON WORK DONE AT THE CEMETERY

February 21, 2003
Hoyt worked at the cemetery 13 days from January 7 to February 20. Three workers were hired each day to help with the cutting and poisoning of briars, brush and stumps. The method they used was cut one, poison one, cut one, poison one. Collin County helped us immencely by hauling off the brush and cuttings. About 90% of the Murchison and Honaker Cemeteries have been cleared of briar, sprouts, brush, trees. Hoyt met with Assistant County Agent Landry Luckett (horticulturist) and discussed several matters and procedures to help the cemetery.
Work that still need to be done:
- Varmints need to be erradicated, varmint holes need to be filled
- Monuments leveled, monuments repaired
- Fence to be repaired or rebuilt
- Concrete bases to be poured

What a disappointment - it rained again! I walked into the cemetery on Saturday but it was too wet to do anything. - Hoyt

CLEAN-UP REPORT - Three of us were able to go to the cemetery on January 6. Some limbs were cut and dragged to a pile. Also there were quite a few limbs down from the ice storm - some of these were cleaned up. We cut briars and poisoned them - cleaning out an area of the Murchison Cemetery. Hoyt transplanted some of the Vinca to some other spots - trying to get this ground cover to take hold. We hope to go back soon but so far the weather has been a deterent for working!
A very special thanks to the Farmersville Times for the publicity that they have given us in their very fine newspaper!
