Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel Silas Newcomb’s First Regiment, Cumberland County Militia, prior to December 23, 1778 (Ref. Mss. 3081) Colonel, First Regiment, Cumberland County Militia, Febrary 4, 1777. (Ref. Minutes of Joint-Meeting, page 13). Commanded his regiment in service, February 1777, and in consequence of a severe fatiqueing and dangerous Expedition against the Enemy, then at New Brunswick, about the 25th of February 1777, he was seized with a violent disease of which he died in camp, March 5, 1777. (Ref. Mss 1,305 and Votes of Assembly, pages 10, 12, and 15.) Husband of Hannah Preston. Estate received a Certificate No. 41 signed by Eli Elmer, in the amount of $10.0.0, for the depreciation of his Continental pay in the Cumberland County Militia, dated May 1, 1784. (Ref. Militia, 2nd Year, A Petition, dated October 1809, signed by the executors of the last will of Hannah Preston, widow of Isaac Preston, list the following heirs: Bathsheba Newcomb, widow, late Bathsheba Preston Carll Whitaker and Elizabeth, his wife, late Elizabeth Preston, Ezekial Foster and Hannah, his wife, late Hannah Preston, Jeremiah Foster for Elizabeth Williams, the child of Theolia Williams, deceased, youngest child of Colonel Preston.
