William was born 12 Apr 1822 in Lewis Twp., Brown Co., OH. William was the son of Jacob Waterfield and Mary Metzgar. William died 1888 in Clermont Co., OH, at age 66.⁽¹²⁷⁰⁾ His body was interred 1888 in Clermont Co., OH.⁽¹²⁷¹⁾ On one stone with M. I. Waterfield: William Waterfield - 1822-1888⁽¹²⁷²⁾

William was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Felicity, Clermont Co., OH.⁽¹²⁷³⁾ Elizabeth Waterfield, daughter of James and Eliza (Stoner) Waterfield, whose mother died when she was 4 years old, was living in the household of her Uncle William and Aunt Minerva Waterfield at the time of the 1870 U.S. Census. She was 14 years old at the time. Perhaps Elizabeth was raised by this childless couple. Elizabeth Pribble was shown as a Domestic Servant and William Whiteman, age 17, was shown as a clerk in the store.
