I personally visited Henry County Courthouse in June, 1991 to try to locate
Diadamia's death record. As they had written me, it does not exist. Explanation given by the clerk was that during the years when the
Chaffins lived in Napoleon, death records were taken door-to-door at the end of March each year. Because Diadamia died at the end of April
and Dr. Chaffin left town shortly thereafter, there was nobody to give the information in March, 1876. A trip to the Napoleon Public Library
led me to Diadamia's obituary and a cemetery book that showed her body to be interred in Glenwood Cemetery. Diadamia is buried in the Heller
family plot with her daughter, Sophronia and the rest of the Heller family. Her stone is the largest one there and sits at one end by
itself. Although the elements have degenerated it a great deal, the lettering is still good enough that I got a legible photograph. MHM

In his autobiography, George
A. Hall lists the names of the children from his marriage to Emma Chaffin as "~William, deceased, and Charles E., now in the real estate
business in Hutchison[sic], Kans."~ Considering the fact that George listed the five children from his next two marriages in chronological
order and considering the preciseness with George kept all his other records, it would be out of character for him to have listed his
William and Charles out of birth order..

Emily Chaffin Obit,
Van Wert Weekly, DEAD - At the residence of GEORGE A.
HALL; in Van Wert, June 23d, MRS. EMMA P. HALL, wife of G.A. HALL, and daughter of DR. CHAFFIN of hancock County, Ohio.
MRS. HALL was in the 30th year of her age. Thus in the bloom and vigor of womanhood was she cut down. She entertained a hope, from the
commencement of her sickness, that she might be sparedd to enjoy, with her husband, their cottage home; but it was otherwise ordered, and
when it became apparent that she must die, she calmly resigned herself to the will of God and peacefully closed her eyes to all of earth. In
her death, we have lost a worthy citizen, the church an exemplary member, and her husband an affectionate wife.

I have in my possession the personal photo album of Harriett Hall Crouse,

Charley had been with the family, certainly the album would contain more than the one picture of a balding Charley, labeled "~Chas. E.

In his autobiography,
George A. Hall lists the names of the children from his marriage to Emma Chaffin as "~William, deceased, and Charles E., now in the real
estate business in Hutchison[sic], Kans."~ Considering the fact that George listed the five children from his next two marriages in
chronological order and considering the preciseness with George kept all his other records, it would be out of character for him to have
listed his William and Charles out of birth order..

Emily Chaffin Obit,
Van Wert Weekly, DEAD - At the residence of GEORGE
1055.
I have in my possession the personal photo album of Harriett Hall Crouse,
Charley's half-sister. The album is filled with labeled pictures of all of George's children during their childhood years.except Charley. If
Charley had been with the family, certainly the album would contain more than the one picture of a balding Charley, labeled "~Chas. E.
Hall, Half-bro and family"~.

Because there is no mention of William anywhere but in the autobiography of
George A. Hall, it is
assumed this child did not survive long. My father and his cousins never heard reference to the fact Charley
had a brother. Because George mentions this child first and because Emily died in June, 1865 when Charley was 17 mos old, it would seem the
only time this child would fit into the picture (if the first child) would be between the May, 1861 marriage of Emily and George and April,
1863 when Charley was conceived. Therefore, assuming the child was born 9 mos after the marriage and before the next conception, the birth
event is placed between Feb. 1862 and Mar. 1863.
