When my grandmother, Louisa Chandler was 16 she went to Iowa (near Vincent) to help her Uncle Charlie who had lost his arm in an accident.  She helped him run his farm for eight hard years before a letter from Tommy Ghering changed her life. Their correspondence lead to a proposal and her return to Titusville, PA to marry him 16 December 1890.  It was her Uncle Jake Chandler who encouraged Tommy to write to Louisa.
