Carey, Elbert R. ELBERT R. CAREY DIES; LIVED HERE 60 YEARS Was Teamster in Employ of City For Many Years; Is Survived by Second Wife. Elbert R. Carey, aged 83, a resident of Titusville about 60 years, died at his home of the infirmities of old age at 11:20 o'clock yesterday morning. He had been ill since February. Mr. Carey was for many years a teamster in the employ of the city. He was a great lover of and authority on horses. He spent his declining years on a farm near here, but when his health began to fail more rapidly, he moved back to town. Born on January 27, 1850, in Chermung county, N.Y. Mr. Carey moved to Titusville soon after marrying the first time. His first wife died about 22 years ago, there being no children by this union. On October 14, 1913, he married Mrs. Mary Ann Ghering at Franklin and continued to make his home in Titusville. Surviving are his widow, three step-children, Mrs. Anna Shriver, Mrs. J.H. Keyes and Mrs. S.C. Williams, all of Titusville; two nieces, Mrs. Birdie Meade of Waverly, N.Y., and Mrs. Ethel Gundermann of California; and a nephew, Alburton Meader of Waverly, N.Y. He was the last of his family, his brother and sisters having died some time ago. Funeral services will be conducted at the Paul B. Kerr funeral home, East Walnut street Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Roy F. Howe, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church will officiate, and interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Ghering Had Lived for Nearly 90 Years Mrs. Mary Ann Ghering Carey, aged 89 years, 2 months, and 7 days, died at her home 410 North First street, at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, death being due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Carey was born in Wuerttemburg, Germany, February 19, 1847, the daughter of John and Barbara Goehring. She came to America when 17 years of age and was the last of a family of four brothers and two sisters. On February 24, 1870, she was married to Christian Ghering and to them were born four children- Mrs. Anna Shriver of Titusville, Mrs. Lucy Kees and Mrs. Grace Williams of East Troy, and a son Theodore who died in infancy. Mr. Ghering died December 8, 1901. On October 14, 1913, she was married to E.R. Carey, who died on August 10, 1933. Mrs. Carey resided in the East Troy community for many years and enjoyed a large acquaintance, among whom she was known as a kind and loving wife and mother, good neighbor and true friend in time of sickness or trouble. She was a member of the M.E. church for 65 years in East Troy and Titusville and was a faithful attendant as long as her health permitted. Besides the children mentioned, she leaves five grandchildren - Mrs. Emma Prozeller of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Mildred Weaver of this city, Mrs. Isla Strawbridge and Harold Dean Shriver of Diamond and Lloyd Kees of Erie. There are eight living great-grandchildren. The body was prepared for interment at the Paul B. Kerr funeral home, where services in her memory will be conducted Tuesday, April 28, at 2 p.m., with interment in the East Troy cemetery.
Crawford, Alverta M. Mrs. Alverta M. Crawford, 76, of 282 W. State St., Pleasantville, died at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 1989, at Grandview Health Care, Oil City, following an extended illness. Mrs. Crawford was born in Titusville June 26, 1912, the daughter of the late Alfred and Laura Aken Reese. She was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1930. She was married to Harold E. Crawford Oct. 18, 1933, at Ripley, N.Y. Mrs. Crawford was employed at Rowe's Flower Shop and Greenhouse for several years. She was a member of the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church and the Women's Missionary Society of the Church. She held an evangelist license and she conducted Bible schools throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. She was a memeber of the Women's Missionary Society of Lakeland, Fla. She is survived by her husband; a daughter and a son; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, one brother, James Reese and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Crawford and Mrs. Esther Offi, died previously. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. David Anderson, pastor of the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church, and Rev. Larry Thomas, pastor of the Titusville Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Jameson Corners Cemetery. Crawford, Charles W. Charles W. Crawford, 76, of 6253 Corey St., Riverside, Calif., died at 4:20 p.m. Sept. 14, 1985, in the Riverside Hospital. He was born April 21, 1909, in Cherrytree Township, a son of the late Robert J. and Mae Proper Crawford. When he resided in Titusville he worked as an electrician for Struthers Wells and also Northern Ordnance Oil Co. In 1951, he moved to Riverside and was employed by Ruhr Aircraft until his retirement. Memorial services will be held Friday in Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Riverside, Calif. The family said memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund.

(Stevenson) Mrs. Elizabeth M. Crawford, 74, of Titusville, RD 3, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1980, in the Titusville Hospital where she was admitted Friday. Mrs. Crawford was born at Kaneville, April 30, 1905, the daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Newson Stevenson. She married Floyd H. Crawford Sr., June 8, 1921, at Kaneville. He died on April 7, 1963. One granddaughter and four brothers died previously. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Crawford, Floyd H. Floyd H. Crawford, 64, died at his home at Titusville, RD 3, (Cherrytree Township) of a heart attack at 7 a.m. yesterday. He was born Dec. 22, 1898 in Petroleum Center, the son of Curtis R. and Mary Hogg Crawford. Mr. Crawford worked 20 years for the Penn-Drake Refining Co., and after they dismantled and left Titusville, he worked for himself in the sand and gravel business on Route 8, south of the city. On June 8, 1921, he married Elizabeth Stevenson of Oil City, RD 1, at Rouseville. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Floyd H. Crawford Jr. and Donald L. Crawford, both of Titusville, RD 3; Mrs. Marjorie Shaffer of Titusville, RD 2; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hancox of Titusville, RD 3; and Mrs. Florence Taylor of Bradford; three grandsons. One granddaughter, Carol June Shaffer, is deceased. Friends will be received at the Tracy Home of Funerals from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday and attend the funeral service there at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Wayne Mowris, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Titusville, in charge. Interment will be in Jameson Corners Cemetery.

Harold E. Harold E. Crawford, 80, of 282 W. State St., Pleasantville, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, 1991, at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. Mr. Crawford was born in Titusville on Dec. 22, 1910, a son of the late Robert and Mae Proper Crawford. He was married to the former Alverta M. Reese Oct. 18, 1933, at Ripley, N.Y. Mrs. Crawford died March 15, 1989. He was employed by the Struthers Wells Corp. as a foreman. He was employed there for 26 years. Following the closing of Struthers Wells Corp., he was employed at the Grand Valley Manufacturing as a foreman. He retired in 1972. Following his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford resided in Lakeland, Fla. During World War II, he was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, and a member of the board of trustees of the Pleasantville Free Methodist Campground. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Crawford is preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ruth Schwartz, and three brothers, Charles, Kenneth and Howard Crawford. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Crawford, Howard J. Howard J. Crawford, 58, of 211 W. Main St., Youngsville, formerly of Titusville and Pleasantville, died Monday night in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He had been a patient there for the past week following an extended illness. He was born at Goodwill Hill, Warren County, April 1, 1915, the son of the late Robert J. and Mae M. Proper Crawford. He was married to the former Irene Reese. She died Feb. 18, 1962. Mr. Crawford was employed by Struthers Wells Corp. as a machinist for 27 years. After the close of the plant he was employed by the Grand Valley manufacturing Co., as a machinist. He had been retired for the past eight months due to ill health. He attended Titusville High School and was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Titusville. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the Free Methodist Church on West Spruce Street at 11 a.m., Friday with Rev. Crawford, Irene Reese Mrs. Irene Reese Crawford, 47, of Titusville, RD 3, died at 5:20 a.m. yesterday at Titusville Hospital folling a short illness. She was born March 8, 1914 in Titusville, the daughter of Mrs. Laura R. Reese and the late Alfred R. Reese. She lived in Titusville practically all her life. She was married on June 9, 1937 in the Free Methodist Church to Howard J. Crawford. She worked at the Rowe Florist Shop for about 25 years as a clerk. She was a life long member of the Titusville Free Methodist Church and a member of the Missionary Society of that church. She was also a member of the WCTU. She was well known in Titusville, Oil City and vicinity as an outstanding singer. Friends may call at the Tracy Home of Funerals from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday. The body will be taken to the Free Methodist Church at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and will lie in state until 1:45 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the church at 2 p.m. with Rev. L.J. Lindsay and Rev. D.N. Thomas. Interment will be in Jamison Corners Cemetery.

James Crawford, 84, well known worker in the Pennsylvania oil fields for many years, died at his home in Corry shortly after noon Saturday. He was born at Hubbard, O., October 24, 1855, and at the age of 21 years went to work in the oil fields. For many years he resided at Gresham, west of Titusville. He had been engaged in the grocery business in Corry the past eleven years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Addie Crawford, he leaves a step-daughter, Mrs. Ivy Perry of Alfred Station, N.Y., two half sisters, Mrs. Olive Magee and Miss Tillie Crawford, both of Hubbard, O. Services will be conducted from the Bracken-Keating funeral home in Corry, Tuesday at 2 p.m., with interment in the Kerr Hill cemetery at Gresham.

M. (Proper) Mrs. Mae M. Crawford, 70, of 121 E. Bloss St. died at the Titusville Hospital at 10:25 o'clock last night following a brief illness. Mrs. Crawford had fallen while attending the Free Methodist Church on Jan. 11. She was born Aug. 15, 1889, at Troy Center, a daughter of Perry and Hattie Marsh Proper. She was married to Robert Crawford, who died Jan. 9, 1949. Mrs. Crawford had attended the Free Methodist Church and was a member of the Practical Nurses Association. Friends may call at the Tracy Home of Funerals from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The funeral service will be held there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. in the Oil City Hospital at 4:35 AM Sunday after an illness of several days. She was the
wife of Lewis Newton Crawford. Mrs. Crawford was a daughter of John and Elizabeth
Klutz Baney and was born at Kaneville on Feb. 22, 1876. She was married to Mr. Crawford in
1896 and he preceded her in death in 1934. She resided in this section all her life and
was a member of the Rouseville Methodist Church.

James Robert James Crawford, 62, died at the home of his son, Harold Crawford, on State street in Pleasantville at noon yesterday. He had been ill since last June 15. Born in Petroleum Center on May 31, 1886, he was a son of the late Curtis and Mary Hogg Crawford of Breedtown. He was married on March 15, 1907, to Minnie Proper of Cherrytree. He had always lived in this vicinity and since 1942 resided at Pleasantville. He worked in the oil fields most of his life, but during the World War II was employed by Struthers Wells. He leaves six children: Charles W. Crawford, Howard J. Crawford and Mrs. Viola Bohin of Titusville, Mrs. Ruth Schwartz of Route 1, Titusville; Kenneth L. Crawford of Route 3, Titusville, and Harold E. Crawford of Pleasantville; ten grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; Rollya W. Crawford, Walter G. Crawford, Mrs. Lee Hancox and Floyd H. Crawford of Route 3, Titusville; Mrs. Charles Taylor of Bradford and Mrs. Harry Motter of Warren, O. A sister, Mrs. Leon MacKenzie of Rouseville preceded him in death. Friends may call at the E.A. Peterson funeral home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Samuel Stimer of the Pleasantville Free Methodist church. Ghering Mrs. Ruth G. Daniels, 49, of 786 Hartman St., Meadville, died at 9:05 o'clock last night at her home. She had been ill four weeks. She was a teacher in Titusville for 18 years and after moving to Meadville taught physical education there for 13 years. Mrs. Daniels was a graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College. Her husband, Clifford E. Daniels, is also a school teacher. Mrs. Daniels was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Troy Township a daughter of James C. and Cora Mills Ghering. She was a member of Stone Methodist Church in Meadville, the VFW Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks, the PTA and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Besides her husband, she leaves two brothers, Kenneth M. Ghering of Youngstown, O., and Clifford Leroy Ghering of Titusville. Friends may call at the Kennedy Funeral Home, Meadville. Ghering Mrs. Adda May Deets, wife of William Deets of Dempseytown, died at her home at 4:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon, following illness of six months. Mrs. Deets was born on April 1, 1885, and was married to Mr. Deets on February 28, 1906. She had lived on the farm where she died ever since her marriage, and was a diligent worker in that community, in church, social and other social activities. For a number of years, Mrs. Deets was correspondent for The Herald in that community. When the movement for a farmers' market was started a few years ago, Mrs. Deets was one of the early advocates and until her health failed she was always at the market with Mr. Deets. Besides the husband, she leaves the following children: Ray and Glenn Deets at Hamilton Corners, Mrs. Olin Baum of Rouseville, Helen, Hilda, Pearl, Fred and Roy Deets at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive. Albert Ghering of Troy Center, Mrs. Newton Bush of Titusville, Mrs. Guy Reynolds of Centerville, Mrs. Clarence Ehrhart of Diamond and Lee Ghering of Erie. There is one grandson, Kenneth Baum. The deceased was a member of the Troy Center M.E. church and was much interested in the work of the young people. Services in memory of Mrs. Deets will be conducted from the home at 2 p.m., Sunday, with Rev. L.H. Benson, pastor of the Dempseytown Evangelical church, officiating, and interment will be in the Cherrytree cemetery. Funeral Notice:
