4723 Tryntje JONAS.

Tryntje Jonas came to New Netherland before the Roelofs family moved from Rensselaerswyck to New Amsterdam in 1634, and she may have come to America with the family in 1630. Her full name, as assembled from various source records was Trijntje (given name), Roelofs [datter] (patronymic, or father's given name—from Anneke's marriage intention), Jonas (possessive surname based on given name of husband), van Maesterland (place name, usually based on birthplace). Thus Tryntje (Roelofs) Jonas Van Maesterland was most likely born in Marstrand, now in Sweden, to a father whose given name was Roelof. Her husband's given name was Johan, a Teutonic name usually transliterated by the Dutch to Jan or Johannes, and at times, to Jonas as in this case. Two daughters of Johan and Tryntje are known, that is, Anneke and Marritje. Their full patronymic was Johansdatter, or as transliterated and abbreviated, Jans. Tryntje Jonas served as the official midwife for the West India Company in New Amsterdam.

5632 Thomas ROOTE.  Born on 16 Jan 1605 in Badby, Northampton, England. Baptized on 16 Jan 1605 in Badby, Northampton, England. Died on 17 Jul 1694 in Northampton, Hampshire, MA. Occupation: Weaver, Farmer, Landowner.

Thomas Root was an original proprietor of Hartford, CT, 1636, and should not be confused with a man of the same name who lived in Salem, MA. He was a soldier in the Pequot War, 1637, and received a lot in Soldiers' Field, Hartford. He was a farmer and a weaver, and owned considerable land in Hartford; one parcel was located on what is now North Main Street about a mile west of the State House. He removed with his family to Northampton, MA, in May 1654, being one of the founders of that plantation, which was then called Nonotuck. He was appointed one of the Selectmen in 1659, and was one of the eight "pillars" of the church which was organized 18 Jun 1661.

He died at an advanced age, 17 July 1694. The name of his wife is uncertain. The family history expresses the belief that he was the son of John and Ann (Russell) Root born [sic] at Badby, Co. Northampton, England 16 Jan. 1605; this requires verification.

He married Elizabeth, bef 1640.

Richard Church came to Hartford with Hooker in 1636 -- accompanied his relatives John Marsh, Nathaniel Marsh, and Isaac Graves -- and drew twelve acres of land in the first land division in 1639. He had a house and land in Burr Street and land at the cow pasture in 1640; was viewer of chimneys in 1647, and was freed from watching, warding and training by the General Court March 7, 1654 and 1655. He was one of the sixty persons who "at a meeting at Goodman Ward's house, April 18, 1659, signed an agreement to remove themselves and families out of Connecticut into Massachusetts, for the purpose of forming the town of Hadley."

He married Anne MARSH, on 18 May 1627 in Barnstable, England.
