17281 Elizabeth HARROD. Died in 1597 in Essex County, England.
The name of John's wife is uncertain.
Boyd's Marriages shows a 1570 marriage at Shalford between a John Prentice and an Elizabeth Harrod. Shalford is where a Valentine Prentice married Margaret Brett. A 1570 marriage is consistent with John having a minor child such as was mentioned in his father's will of 1574. Shalford parish records also show a baptism on 16 Feb 1566 for Margaret Prentyce, daughter of John Prentis; it also shows a 13 Feb 1568 baptism for William Prentyce, son of John. The mother is not identified. These children may have preceeded the 1570 marriage, may have been from a previous marriage, or the John referenced in the records may have been a different person altogether.
John's wife may be the Elizabeth Prentice who died in 1597 according to Will No. D\ABW 29\246 at the Essex County Records Office. No husband is mentioned, so he may have predeceased her. One heir in her will is refered to as "John the younger," which tends to confirm that her husband's name was John. The will also makes a bequest to Elizabeth's brother, John Harwarde(?). making allowances for the usual variations in spelling, that, too, tends to confirm that the Elizabeth of the 1597 will is the same Elizabeth of the 1570 marriage. Boyd's does not show a marriage by any john Prentice to any other woman with a surname similar to Harrod subsequent to 1552, although from Shalford baptisms it seems clear there was a married John Prentyce at Shalford by February 1566.
