He was the first Christian King of Norway. He fought the Danes with Aethelred II in England, tearing down London Bridge (commemorated in the nursery rhyme "London Bridge Is Falling Down"). Olaf also fought in western Europe. After becoming sole ruler of Norway, he forcibly Christianized the inhabitants. He was slain during the solar eclipse of 31 Aug 1030 at Stiklestad while fighting Canute, King of England and Denmark.

In 886, she was taken by Rollo (now called Count of Rouen) as his "Danish" wife. Under the Treaty of St. Claire, 911, Rollo received the Duchy of Normandy from Charles III.
