Killed in Accident
in North Carolina

  This community was saddened
recently to learn of the death of
Warrant Officer (j.g.) Merle G.
Maxson who was killed in a motor
accident near Raeford, North Car-
olina on May 21, 1949.
  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Maxson of Shinglehouse and
was one of three officers who met
death while returning from a para-
chute jump school at Fort Benning,
George, to Fort Bragg, N. C. The
car in which they were riding left
the highway and struck a tree.
  Warrant Officer Maxson was
born in Ceres township on Febru-
ary 23, 1910.
  Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Ruth Maxson of Leavenworth,
Kansas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Maxson of Shinglehouse; one
sister, Mrs. Ruth Bean of Cuba;
two brothers, Walter Maxson of
Bradford and Elmer Maxson of
Shinglehouse; several aunts and
uncles, nieces and nephews. He also
leaves two stepdaughters and four
grandchildren.
  Funeral services and burial were
conducted in Leavenworth, Kansas.
