Oswayo Valley Mail, Thursday June 2, 1949 Former Resident Killed in Accident in North Carolina This community was saddened recently to learn of the death of Warrant Officer (j.g.) Merle G. Maxson who was killed in a motor accident near Raeford, North Car- olina on May 21, 1949. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maxson of Shinglehouse and was one of three officers who met death while returning from a para- chute jump school at Fort Benning, George, to Fort Bragg, N. C. The car in which they were riding left the highway and struck a tree. Warrant Officer Maxson was born in Ceres township on Febru- ary 23, 1910. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Maxson of Leavenworth, Kansas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maxson of Shinglehouse; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Bean of Cuba; two brothers, Walter Maxson of Bradford and Elmer Maxson of Shinglehouse; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He also leaves two stepdaughters and four grandchildren. Funeral services and burial were conducted in Leavenworth, Kansas.
