Barrack
Lane, Allihies
(known as Cluin in the 1800's)
|

The miners that
worked in the Mountain Copper Mine near Allihies
lived in rock cottages on Barrack lane and along the road leading
from the village to the mine. |
|

Barrack lane was called that because the
police barracks were
at the end of the lane, where the white
building is in this picture. |
|

The houses were one room and had dirt floors.
Many miners had large families, and the families lived in one-room
houses. |
