Notes:
George Mills told Frederick Crump this story that Georgia Ann Mills had told him "about crossing the Red River on a ferry. It was real cold. There was a bar there on one side, and the bar keeper told Grandpa Harper and all the family to come in the bar on the south side of the Red River and stay by the heater. No card-playing and no whiskey will be sold while women-folks are inside. Probably took one hour or so. Was raining and freezing. They came in 3 or 4 wagons to haul their chickens and livestock back with them."
