"Sevier County and Its People". Sevier County Historical Society. 1980. Taylor Publishing Company, Dallas. p. 150 "When there were still just five townships, in 1832, the reocrds show that the people in Jefferson Township were to vote at the house of Roger McCown, and William Story, Richard Stowe and James Burke were to be judges." p. 79 "James Burke, William STORY, Benjamin Rains and Phineas Robinson are allowed until the next term of this Court to view and mark out the road from the upper settlement of the Cossatot commencing at the house of William STORY in the said settlement and running to the upper settlement of the Rolling Fork and the Clerk of this Court is hereby directed to make out a true transcript of this order and is hereby ordered to serve the same upon each of the above persons twenty days after the adjournment of this Court." "One of the interesting things here was that William Story and Phineas Robinson were notable bear hunters. Their names often appear as viewers on what probably were the most rugged roads. Records show that they were difficult to locate and had to be served with repeated notices to do the task to which they had been assigned."

Doris Pendleton says that there is a Story Creek near DeQueen, Arkansas named after William Story.
