WIFE NOTES:

March 3, 2008

Hi, Judy, and thanks. I am helping a friend (your cousin, I guess) with his family history. He descends from a sister of James D. Hardy, Jane "Jennie" Hardy. She was among the half of the children of Hugh Hardy and Jane---- who were born in Scotland. Although she was in Bangor for the 1860 census, somehow, she ended up in South Berwick, Maine the following year where she married Civil War veteran Jacob Evans Aspinwall. Based upon the ages presented very clearly on the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Bangor, Franklin County NY, I should easily pick up the family of Hugh and Jane Hardy on the 1841 Scottish census, but do not see them there. I should also be able to see the records of births/baptisms of the children in Scotland, but cannot find even one of them in the Old Parish Records. Moreover, the marriage of Hugh to Jane/Jennie should be easy to locate in Scotland, base upon their births ca 1821 and the age of thier eldest child, but again, no luck...have tried Hardie/Hardy/Hardee without sucess. I note the grave marker of "Hue Hardy" at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bangor, and also have a copy of his estate that mentions the Aspinwall children in Hollis New Hampshire of the marriage noted in the first sentence above. Best...Bruce.
