According to The Stowell Genealogy, pub 1970, Joseph lived at Winchester, NH. He was a Physician. Joseph and Martha owned the covenant of Petersham Church, Jan 31, 1762. He was made a selectman Sept 7, 1775, made Enumerator Oct 5, 1775. He was one of seven sent to represent the town at the formation of the State. Joseph joined Winchester Church Nov 14, 1764; Martha joined July 7, 1765. Joseph was made deacon in Winchester Church in 1780.

Joseph Stowell and David Page were signers to petition to secure the Charter for town of Lancaster, NH. Joseph Stowell was also one of the signers to the petition against Great Britain in Winchester, NH June 3, 1776.
