FLORENCE MARTIN Beauty Shop Owner BRUSHTON--Florence Martin 85, Brushton, died Tuesday at Franklin County Nursing Home, Malone, where she had been a resident since Dec. 29, 1998.
Mrs. Martin was first employed at Shield Slipper Factory, Bombay, for many years. She was later a hairdresser in Rochester and Miami, Fla., and then owned and operated a beauty shop in her home in Brushton. She retired in 1977.
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Moira, daughter of Albert and Bernice Prue Rockhill, she attended Moira High School. She married Edward J. Martin on Dec. 6, 1958 in St. Regis Falls.
Surviving besides her husband are a sister, Irene Kujawsky, Rochester; two sisters-in-laws, Leota B. Rockhill, Brushton, and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Cheryl Lynn, died in infancy. Four brothers, Lindsay, Leslie, Kenneth and Stanley Rockhill, and two sisters, Leota Gervais and Louella Homes, died before her.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Flint Funeral home, Moira, with the Rev. James Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hope Community Center or the Alzheimer's Association.
