After Sallie Herring graduated from Mt. Peak Academy, she taught in Lone Elm, a community east of Mt. Peak near Waxahachie. Her teaching report for one week in November 1903 shows that she had 17 pupils, and her accounting of services rendered shows that she was paid $13.75 for that week.
