We are having a real touch of winter weather. Farmers are about to bring their farming to a close.
There will services at the Baptist church Sunday.
Bill and H. B. Smith have returned home from a visit to West Texas.
Misses Nannie and Mary Francys Burleson spent Sunday with Mary Sue Willis.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Cappleman spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Morris of Waxahachie.
Frank Smith motored to Ervindale Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Seigers of Fort Worth spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Farris.
Mrs. Frank Bellew and Miss Oleta Bellew of Dallas spent Saturday with relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Forbes were Dallas visitors Thursday.
Mrs. Ja. A. Willis spent the first part of the week in Fort Worth visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ted Willis, who are the proud parents of a new baby daughter.

Bro. Burleson preached at the Baptist church Saturday night, Sunday morning and night.
The following attended the Ellis County Baptist association at Red Oak Tuesday: Rev. and Mrs. R. D. Burleson, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield, Miss Lucy Herring, Mrs. J. A. Willis, Mrs. S. B. Pickard, Mrs. R. A. Ganaway, Mrs. Gertrude Burt and Miss Helyn Ganaway. Bro. Burleson preached the annual sermon. A very enjoyable day was had by all.
School opened Monday with the same teachers as follows: Mrs. E. J. Cappleman, Miss Lucy Belle Connally and Mrs. E. J. Cappleman of Windham; Misses Lessye Kelley and Mary Francyes Adkins of Waxahachie. We are hoping this will be another successful school year.
The following took dinner Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Willis: Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield, Jr. and children of Sterrett, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jean and little daughter of Midlothian and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Willis and Macon Willis of Fort Worth.
Several ladies attended an all-day quilting at Mrs. Albert Stephenson's last Thursday.

The Baptist meeting closed Sunday night. Rev. Fred Thompson of Itasca brought some wonderful messages. There was good attendance at both morning and night services. There were several additions to the church, the Baptismal service was held Sunday afternoon at the Singleton Spring, which is a very beautiful place for such an occasion.
Rev. R. D. Burleson left Friday afternoon for Desoto where he is conducting a revival meeting this week.
Mrs. J. A. Willis and Mrs. Ted Willis visited relatives in Dallas last Friday afternoon.
Miss Christelle Morris and Mrs. Lucy Herring are visiting in the home of Miss Minnie Herring at Venus this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burleson took supper Friday night in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield.
Mrs. Jack Jean of Midlothian and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield Jr. and little son of Steritt spent last week in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Willis.
Misses Lessie Kelly and Mary Frances Adkins, both of Waxahachie, visited friends here a few days last week and attended the meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Willis and son, Macon, spent Sunday in the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield near Sterrett. The Willis children had prepared a birthday dinner in honor of their mother and it was a complete surprise to her.
Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Roten and children and Mrs. Sallie Roten of Midlothian attended church here Sunday and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Forbes.
Mrs. R. A. Ganaway and daughter, Mrs. Milton Rogers, visited relatives at Venus last Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Timmin and Mrs. O. M. Timmin of Dallas, Tex, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Stricklin the past week-end. The Timmins formerly lived here and their many friends were glad to see them back again.
Truett Mason of Dallas was a visitor in this community Sunday afternoon and attended church Sunday night.

Tom Dailey of Midlothian died in the Waxahachie Sanitarium Saturday and was laid to rest in the Mountain Peak Cemetery Sunday afternoon. Mr. Dailey was a former resident of this community and his many friends here extend to his bereaved ones their deepest sympathy.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Howard and little son, Albert Herschel, visited Mr. and Mrs. Gene McMichiel Thursday night.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Smith of Gatesville visited Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Smith Thursday. Mrs. Smith will visit here several weeks before returning to Gatesville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ganaway spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ganaway of Arlington Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield visited Mrs. Miltton Wakefield, who is in the Waxahachie Sanitarium, Sunday.
Miss Johnnie Steward entertained the young people of this community with a party Wednesday night. Many interesting games were played and a nice time was had by all.
Mrs. Clinton Edwards surprised her husband with a large birthday dinner last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Victor McBrayer were present to help celebrate the occasion.

Mrs. Boss Pickard received a letter from Miss Lucy Belle Connally, a former teacher in our school, but is now teaching in Anderson County, and Miss Connally stated that her school entered the Interscholastic League meet in that county and made seventy points. Miss Connally has many friends in this community who will be glad to know that she is having such a successful school year.

The Rev. Oscie Alsup preached at the Baptist Church Sunday morning and night, in the absence of the pastor, Rev. R. D. Burleson, who was taken to the Waxahachie Sanitarium last Friday for treatment.

The Singleton Farm baseball team was defeated by a team from Venus Sunday afternoon. The scores were 8 and 2. The farm boys had just received their new green suits and played in them Sunday. They are to play a Dallas team in the near future.

The baccalaureate services were held in the school auditorium Sunday morning with Rev. Teddlie of Midlothian delivering the address. Rev. Teddlie gave the graduating classes some wonderful advice that should mean much to them in their future lives.
"Ready Made Family," a three-act play, was presented at the school auditorium Friday night to a large crowd. The play was very interesting and was quite different from any other play that has ever been presented at this place.
T. E. Price attended the play Friday night and spent the night with Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Burks.
Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stricklin of Quinlin are visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ganaway.
Mrs. Boss Pickard visited Mrs. Lee Moore, who has been very ill, Tuesday afternoon.
Milton Wakefield visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wakefield, Wednesday morning. He then left for Arkansas where he will be for several weeks.
Several from here atteded the funeral of Mr. Davenport at Midlothian Thursday morning. We were grieved to hear of Mr. Davenport's death and to his loved ones we extend our deepest sympathy.
Mrs. Boss Pickard taught the primary room several days in the absence of Miss Marie Davenport.
