INDEX and NOTES

ABOUT THE PEI IRISH DATA BASE PROJECT

It started innocently enough - and we all know where the road that's paved with "good intentions" eventually leads...

A few years back, I got to thinking (always dangerous, that!) - why doesn't someone gather together ALL the information about the people who were born in Ireland, but were on The Island by 1845? It didn't appear to be an impossible job, perhaps a bit "time-consuming", but certainly "do-able".

So, I hopped on the above-mentioned "road", and started going through my own reference books, and through the PEI microfilms on Indefinate Loan at our Family History Center. I grabbed the folks who fit my "specs", and popped 'em into a data base.

ONE THOUSAND names later, and the database is STILL nowhere near "complete"; this project has turned out to be SISYPHEAN, to say the least! Still, there might be some bit of information contained therein that might help another PEI researcher locate his/her ancestors. So, I decided to upload the whole thing to my RootsWeb site.

I realize that the documentation leaves a LOT to be desired. With that in mind, I request that you READ and REMEMBER ...

THE CAVEAT

The documentation on the four data pages of the PEI IRISH PROJECT is shoddy. (There are OTHER words that could be used to describe the sourcing, but I wouldn't want to offend anyone!) Use the data as a "finding aid" or a "kick-start", but remember - it's only worth what you've paid for it...

END of THE CAVEAT

Oh, I suppose I should clue you in on one rather obtuse abbreviation I've used in the SOURCE column - REP refers to the records of "Repealer" meetings held in various localities in the early 1840s. Most other abbreviations should be easy to figure out...
