Petition for Letters of Administration
Petition of A.F. Downs in the matter of the estate of Eliza J. Vaught, deceased,
for letters of administration.
To the Honorable James C. Pearce, Judge of the County Court of White County,
in the State of Illinois:
The petition of the undersigned A.F. Downs respectfully represents that Eliza
J. Vaught, late of the county of White, aforesaid, departed this life at Burnt
Prairie in said county, on or about the 22nd day of December A.D. 1896 leaving
no last will and testament so far as your petitioner knows or believes.
And this petition further shows that the said Eliza J. Vaught died, seized and
possessed of personal estate consisting chiefly of notes and accounts $300.00,
hosehold goods $100.00 all of said personal estate being estimated to be worth
about four hundred dollars. That said deceased left surviving her E.M. Garrison,
Mary Hunsinger, Julia A. Downs, heirs of William Vaught, Albert Vaught, Willis
Vaught and Margaret Hoskins, all deceased as heirs. That your petitioner (being
nephew of said deceased) and believing that the said estate should be immediately
administered as well for the proper management of said estate as for the prompt
collection of assets, by virtue of his right under the statute he therefore prays
that your honor will grant letters of administration to himself in the premises,
upon his taking the oath prescribed by the statute, and entering into bond in
such sum and with securities as may be approved by your Honor.

property that has come into his hands as administrator of the above estate.
He further represents that all debts due the estate have been collected and all
claims against the estate have been paid and that therefore no further business
remains to be done by him as administrator other than to distribute the assets
among the heirs. He therefore prays that this be approved and accepted as his
final report and that upon his filing receipts of the above adult heirs and county
treasurers receipts for shares of minor heirs without legal guardians, he be
finally and forever discharged and relieved from responsibility as administrator
of the estate of Eliza Jane Vaught, deceased.

Jeremiah Vaught was b 5, Nov 1837 in White County, Il. d, 13 Aug 1860 in White
County, IL.
He is buried at Salem Cemetery, near Burnt Prairie, Illinois.
Jeremiah was not married and left bills of over $400.00 when he died. He ran
a large bill at Morrison's store in Burnt Prairie where he had purchased quite
a few clothes and cigars.
Affidavit of Decease and Names of Heirs.
State of Illinois, White County
Willis Vaught, being duly sworn, deposes and says that Jeremiah W. Vaught late
of the county of White and State of Illinois, is dead, and that he died on or
about the 13th day of August a.D. 1860 and that his personal estate will probably
amount to $200.00 that said Jeremiah Vaught left at the time of his decease no
widow, but Abraham Vaught, father, and William Vaught, Albert Vaught, Willis
Vaught, Sarah Vaught, Mary Hunsinger, Elizabeth Garrison, Eliza J. Vaught and
Julia Downs, his brothers and sisters, and the heirs of Margaret Hoskins.
