McAdam Parish was set up from Prince William, Dumfries and Manners Sutton Parishes in 1894: named for John McAdam (1807-1893), Member of the House of Assembly and local lumberman. There seems to have been few settlements within the Parish. The villages of McAdam and St. Croix are the only concentrated areas. The rest are merely farm communities, or houses stretched along the highway. The areas listed in the book, COMMUNITY PLACE NAMES IN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA, compiled by Robert F. Fellows are:
- Burpee: Former railway point, 2 mi. S of McAdam and 2 mi. NE of St. Croix:
- Cairds: Former station, 13 mi. NW of McAdam: McAdam Parish: York County.
- City Camp: See McAdam
- Cottrell: Railway point, 10 mi. W of McAdam
- Kilmaquac: Former settlement, 5 mi. SW of McAdam
- McAdam: 40 mi. SW of Fredericton: PO McAdam Junction 1870-1940 which in 1898 was a port of entry, a junction on the Canadian Pacific Railway and a village with 4 stores, 2 hotels, 1 church and a population of 550: PO St. Croix 1870-1957, 5 mi. W of village centre, which in 1898 was a siding on the Canadian Pacific Railway and a farming settlement with 1 store, 1 church and a population of 100: PO McAdam from 1940: called City Camp about 1850 for large number of lumber camps: in 1869 McAdam was a station on the St. Andrews and Quebec Railway: McAdam was incorporated as a village in 1966.
