Ansley, Ozias
Ozias Ansley, b. 1743, England; d. 5 Sep 1828 ae 85 yrs, Staten Is, NY, s/o Gilbert Ansley, m. Charity Whitenack, b. 1748, d. 6 May 1801 ae 52 yrs, at Saint John, bur. Loyalist Cemetery, Saint John, NB.
On the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he sided with the Crown and served as an Ensign in the NJ Volunteers. He came to NB at the close of the war and settled at Sussex, Kings Co. Appointed a Justice of the Peace, and a Justice of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas. He died on a visit to Staten Island. There was a family of fifteen children.1. Charity 1778 - 1848 m. Native of England, to Sussex Co, NJ, in Sussex Co, NB 1800 and to NY soon after 1801. He served in the NJ Vol and was a adjutant & Quartermaster. One of the early magistrates for Saint John City and Co, as well as a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas.

The founder of the Ansley family was Gilbert Ansley, a British soldier who came from England to America about 1760,and finally settled at Sussex Co., New Jersey. His fourteenth son, Ozias Ansley (1743 - 1848), married Charity Whitenack (1748 - 1801), and resided at Sussex Co, NJ. On the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he sided with the Crown and served as an Ensign in the NJ Volunteers. He came to NB at the close of the war and settled at Sussex, Kings Co. Appointed a Justice of the Peace, and a Justice of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas. He died on a visit to Staten Island, 5 Sep 1828. His wife d. 6 May 1801, aged 53 yrs, and was buried in the Old Burying Ground, Saint John. There was a family of fifteen children, including Rev. Thomas Ansley (1771-1831) of Digby, NS. He m. Mary Scott and their fourth daughter, Mary Jane, m. Brazilla Anzley, her cousin.
Daniel Ansley (1787-1879) m. [1] Frances Bailey, who d. 26 Mar 1827, ae 40 yrs m. [2] Miss Farley m. [3] Elizabeth Oaks. At the time of his death he resided in Digby. Buried in the family plot, Marsh Road, Saint John, NB.
