    Benjamin Alward / Alword, youngest s/o Benjamin Alward (who d. autumn 1787) & Sarah [---], m. 10 Oct 1791, Waterborough, Queens Co, NB, Hannah Wright. They had 7 sons, 4 daughters. Benjamin, Jr. (youngest son) sold out and moved to New Canaan, 1802. He m. Hannah Wright & had 7 sons 4 daus. Charles being the eldest. His mother apparently came later with 4 sons (??)

    ALWARD - Benjamin, a U.E. Loyalist, born in New Jersey, came to New Brunswick in 1783 and settled at the foot of the Washademoak. He moved to New Canaan in 1797 and settled on the farm now owned and occupied by his son, John Alward. His mother subsequently came from the States and lived her remaining days with her son. She died aged eighty-two. Mr. Alward's wife's maiden name was Hannah Wright. Their children were: Charles, who married Elisabeth Keith; Elizabeth to Nehemiah Clark; Archibald to Rachel McDonald; Sarah to John Keith; Mary to Robert Keith; Jesse to Jane Price; Samuel to Elvina Lewis; Benjamin to Jane Alward; Lucy to Levi Clark; William to Elizabeth Parker; John to Mary Corey; Jesse, Benjamin, John, Elizabeth and Mary are yet living. Elizabeth has now forty grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren. Silas Alward, barrister, St. John, is a son of John, and Aaron Alward, MD, St. John, is a son of Charles.

    Benjamin, Jr. was a farmer, came in unit 28, aboard the ANN, 10000 on ship and on arrival & in May 1784

    Benjamin, Jr. (youngest son) sold out and moved to New Canaan, 1802. He m. Hannah Wright & had 7 sons 4 daus. Charles being the eldest. His mother aparently came later with 4 sons (??)

    Benjamin Alward, Sr., d. autumn 1787, m. Sarah [___], d. ae 82 yrs. Benjamin, Sr. was from Ireland to NJ / res. Woodbridge, Middlesex Co, in 1745. Proscribed and banished 12 Feb 1779 (property confiscated). To NB July 1783, went first to Maugerville, Sunbury Co, then s/e side Washademoak Lake, Queens Co. Claimed for losses 23 Jan 1787.

5. Anne; came to NB m. a merchant / NJ wills (abstracts Vol I) 2 Oct 1743 John Alward, of Woodbridge, NJ, Yeoman, appts wife Anne, adm. Mentions Benjamin Alward & Samuel Ford. 15 Apr 1745 (Anne d.) Benjamin Alward (bro. of John) & Samuel Ford (bro-in-law) were granted letters of administration.

Alward, Oswald

    Oswald Alward, a Loyalist, was b. in the State of New Jersey and came to St. John in 1783. He first settled on the Washademoak, but afterwards moved to the Grand Lake. In 1797 he settled in New Canaan, on the farm now owned and occupied by his son, Dennis Alward. His wife's maiden name was Jerusha Price. He had two sons Dennis and George. The latter lives on the farm adjacent to his brother's. They are both independant farmers.
