Anthony Allaire (Capt.) York Co / none / Church of England

    Anthony Allaire was b. 22 Feb 1755, Westchester Co, NY / New Rochelle; d. age 84 yrs, 24 June or 9 June 1838, res. Douglas, York Co, NB; bur Old Cemetery, Fredericton, NB.
    Located at Westchester Co. NY. On the outbreak of the Rev. War, he sided with the Crown, and was gazetted a Lieut. in the Loyal American Regt., raised and commanded by Col. Beverley Robinson, Sr. in 1776. He saw much active service during the War, and during Lord Cornwallis' campaign in the South, Capt. Allaire kept a diary of the events, particularly an account of the Battle of King's Mountain, 7 Oct 1780, in which he participated.
    At the close of the War, he came to Nova Scotia with his Regt., where it was disbanded and the officers retired on half-pay.
    He obtained a grant of land at Douglas, York Co, and settled there. He took an active interest in the affairs of the day, and in 1801, was appointed a Captain of one of the four Companies forming the King's NB Regiment.

      His only dau., Mary Eliza, m. Samuel James Scovil. They were parents of Elizabeth Robinson Scovil, who was 84 years old in 1933. Her address was 12 Kirkless Rd., Thorton Heath, London, England (Miss). She was b. ca. 1849.
      As a girl of 11-12, she was taken by her mother to see her mother's great aunt, Miss Nancy Simonds. She lived on the corner of Orange & Carmarthen Streets. Eliza Maria had a son Wm. Beverley (Major), lived in the old Simonds house at Portland Pt. at one time.
