R.C. Cemetery, Newcastle. He was the s/o Samuel Adams, b. 1815 (of Cork, Ireland) m. Mary Ann Daly/Dayly/Daley/Dealy (06) b. 1818, of Cork, Ireland - d. 23 Apr 1874.
Michael was educated in the Douglastown Parish School & Newcastle Grammar School. Entered law office of Hon. Edward Williston (qv) Judge of County County in 1864, Studied under him until 1867, when he entered with Hon. Allan H. Dawson. Admitted to Bar of NB as Bar of New Brunswick as Attorney 14 Oct 1868, as Barrister Oct 1869. Located at Newcastle & practised law. Created a QC in Feb 1891.
First elected to the House of Assembly of New Brunswick, as one of the members for Northumberland County, at the GE of June 1870, and sat as member in the Legislature until its dissolution in 1874. At the GE June 1874 he was defeated. Re-elected at the GE's of June 1882, 26 Apr 1886 and sat until Jan 1887, when he resigned his seat in order to contest the constituency of Northumberland for the House of Commons, in the GE of that year.
13 Jul 1878, sworn in a member of the Executive Council of NB. Rec'd the appointment of Surveyor General in the Administration of the Hon. John James Fraser (qv). He held this appointment in the Administration of the Hon. Daniel L. Hannington (qv) until 26 Feb 1883 when the administration was given a vote of non-confidence and resigned.
Defeated at the GE 22 Feb 1887 when he contested for the House of Commons seat for Northumberland.
First elected to the House of Commons, as a member for Northumberland, at the GE of 5 Mar 1891. Sat until 7 Jan 1896, when he resigned his seat on being appointed to the Senate of Canada, in place of the Hon. Kennedy F. Burns (qv) deceased. Sat as a member of that house until his death in 1899.
