Isaac Atwood / York Co / MLA 1785 / Loyalist
Isaac Atwood d. 1810/pre 21 May, at Maductic, York Co, NB; m. Elizabeth [___].
He was a Loyalist officer, and came from New Jersey, where he served in the Cavalry and attained the rank of Capt. in the Kings American Regt., and also commanded a company of Dragoons.
At the close of the Revolutionary War in 1783, he came to NB, with his Regiment. He was retired on 1/2 pay, and was given a grant of 700 ac. of land at the mouth of the Eel River; and also an island in the Saint John River, called Fall Island (now Brown Island). He settled upon it and named his estate "Belviso Fall".
He was appointed a Justice of the Peace for York County and Commissioner of Roads. He was an proginal grantee of Saint John, receiving lot #1177.
At the firstGE for the House of Assembly of Mew Brunswick, in the new province, Nov 1785 he was elected as one of the representatives for York County. He sat until dissolution in 1792, when he retired from active politics.
He subsequently suffered financial reverses.Children:

The Royal Gazette, 21 May 1810, contained the Adm. notice of the closing of his estate, and the advertising for sale under Mortgage of Belviso Fall Island & Meductic Estate on 1 Oct 1810, at Gabriel VanHorne's Tavern, Fredericton, NB. (14 Jan 1811, sale return of 157 - Capt. Alward's property.)

Capt. Isaac Attwood commanded the only Company of Calvary attached to the Kings American Regiment under Col. Edmund Fanning - in the Southern Campaign.
He was a New Jersey Loyalist. Came with his Regt, to Saint John Sept 1783, and drew lot 1177 on Parr Town, but soon removed to his lands at the mouth of Eel River.
He was one of the first justices of the Court of Common Pleas for York County and was a Commissioner of Roads for the Parish of Woodstock in 1792.
He did not succeed very well as a farmer, and about 1793 he returned to the US. His property was seized and attached at the instance of William Garden, Esq, merchant of Fredericton, in payment of his debts.
