"Allwington Manor", Westfield, Kings Co, NB; bur. 19 May 1838 Old Anglican Cemetery (St Peters), Westfield; 3rd son of Nathaniel Coffin (1725-1780) & Elizabeth Barnes (d/o Henry Barnes, Esq. Boston, MA); he m. 1781 in Charlestown, Anna Mathews; d. 28 Mar 1839, ae 74 yrs, Bath, England; d/o William Mathews (of Boston, MA / 1725-1780) (Survived by widow, 3 sons, 5 daus)
    His house at Sagwa, Westfield Parish is still standing.

1. Nathaniel (eldest son) Native of Boston, MA; d. 1831 ae 82 yrs, London, England. Pet. for land in NS in 1783, Carleton lot 1785, was in the West Indies ca.1796-1830 where her was Collector of Customs at St Kitts Island.

9. William Henry Native of Boston, Graduated from Harvard 1772. He was a merchant in Boston before he was forced to evacuate to Halifax with the British troops in 1776. He was proscribed and bannished from MA in 1778. Rec'd a Carleton lot 1785, later went to Halifax and Quebec, merchant. Had 3 sons in the British service, plus a dau, Polly.

    In 1784 he bought 6000 acres near Woodman's Point, Kings County, NB, and later moved to Sagwa, facing the Nerepis River. He was a Capt. in both the Orange Rangers and the NY Vol.
    He was a Col. in the British Army in 1797 and rose to General by 1819. In the War of 1812 he raised and commanded a Regt. until 1815. For many years he alternated his residence between England and New Brunswick.

    ... had been m. in Charlestown. His wife, 2 ch, 3 blackmen and 1 black woman arrived in NB in May 1784. They settled at the mouth of the Nerepis on Glasier's Manor, which became known as "Alwington Manor".

(There is no prior record of claim.) Claimt. again Sworn:
    Delivers in a letter dated 1st Septr., 1754, and a letter dated 1st January, 1785, from Mr. S. Sheaffe, of Boston, saying that the sugar House of which he owned 5-8 ths is much injured by different circumstances, ...
    Says he was at Boston in 1776 when he met Thos. Frazer, late Master of Mr. Coffin's Schooner Neptune. Frazer told him that he had sold the schooner and cargo in the W. Indies on his own account, the reason he gave was that he had been negelected while delayed in the river St. Lawrence...
    Wits. was at Boston last December. He saw the ruins of Mr. Coffin's Sugar House, it had been pulled down by the rebels. The Warf(sic) was likewise ruinous.
    Wits. John Urquhart, Sworn:
    Says that he stopped on Board the Schooner Neptune on account of Mr. John Coffin, in 1776 at Chaleur Bay. One thousand Quintalls fish at half a guinea pr. Quintl., likewise to the amt. of £85.13.6 Hal. Cury. £52.1.5 Hal. Cury.
    He knew Thos. Fraser the Master. He was a man of good character. Believes that she was detained 40 Leagues below Quebec all the winter 1775, by the Ice.

    Wesley Herbert Coffin (MD)  b. 7 Aug. 1878 at St. Peter's Harbor, PEI; d. ae 67 yrs, 27 Nov 1945 at Bathurst, Gloucester Co., NB; bur at. United Ch. Cem., Bathurst, NB. He was s/o E. F. Coffin (Eng. desc.) and Mary Anderson, (Scottish desc.)
    He was educated at public school; Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, PEI; Dalhousie Univ., Halifax, NS (BA, 1903) (MD, 1906). He completed his medical education in NY, specializing at the Knapp Memorial Hospital and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
    He located first at Pokiok, York Co., where he practiced medicine. In 1911, he moved to Bathurst, Gloucester Co., where he continued to practice until his death. He built and maintained for years, a 29 bed hospital, which later became a public hospital. He served on the Bathurst Town Council, and was Mayor of the Town in 1917-1918. He was a member of the A.F. & A.M.
    He was defeated at the GE 19 June 1930.
    He was first elected at a by-election on 19 or 26 Oct. 1931, to fill the vacancy created by the death of John P. London. He sat until the dissolution in 1935.
    He was defeated at the GE of 27 June 1935, when he retired from active political life.
    He m. on 14 Aug. 1908 (01) to Ella M. Mills; who d. 2 Mar. 1952. She was d/o John Mills, Esq., of Bay Fortune, PEI. They had 2 daus:
