    CARPENTER - Archibald, Coles, Jacob, James, John, Joseph, Nehemiah, Thomas and Willet, all U.E. Loyalists of Queen's County, New York. In the year 1778 the house of Jacob Carpenter was robbed by a party from Connecticut. Their leader, Carehart, who pretended to be a friend, was treated with the greatest hospitality, of which he took advantage for purposes of plunder. Willet came to St. John in 1783, and became a grantee of that city. He died in 1833, aged 77. Archibald settled on the River St. John, opposite Long Island, in 1784, on the farm now owned by his sons Archibald and Daniel, who are comfortable farmers. Archibald Carpenter, Esq. of Washademoak, is a son of Ephraim and grandson of Archibald the elder. Thomas was an ensign in DeLancey's Third Battalion, and an adjutant of the corps. He became a grantee of St. John in 1783, and received half pay. He subsequently settled on the River St. John, opposite Long Island on the lot of land now owned by his son Thomas Wells, who is a Justice of the Peace for Queen's. Timothy Carpenter, another son, is a wealthy farmer.

03: New Brunswick Loyalist, S. Dubeau
    ... had harboured many Loyalist within his home prior to 1777, at which time he was forced to flee within the British lines at Long Island, NY. He was a cordwainer by trade, and went to NB in 1783 and settled first at Maugerville, Sunbury Co. He eventually settled in Queens Co. In 1787 he was a claimant to the British government for losses suffered in America.
