     William CHAPMAN (b. 1730) Native of Yorkshire, England & res. on the estate of Lord Cavendish. He sailed from Hull, England on the ship "ALBION" 14 Mar 1774, with his wife Mary (b. 1732) with their family of 5 sons and 4 daughters. He gave as the cause of his emigration, "the raising of his rent by his Lordship." He purchased, and settled on a large tract of land near Pt. de Bute, the Fort Cumberland district. He was one of the early Methodist, and on an acre of land given by Mr. Chapman, and deeded to John Wesley, the first Methodist Church was errected at Pt de Bute.
