= Sarah Hood m. 9 Dec 1762, at Topsfield, Maine (then in 1762 in Mass) to Alexander Tapley. They cane to Maugerville in the schooner "Eunice", which arrived in Saint John on 26 Apr 1767.
= Susannah Hood (sister of Sarah), b. 27 Oct 1762, at Topsfield, m. 9 Jun 1763, at Topsfield, to Israel Kinney, who was drowned in the Oromocto River, Christmas eve, 1791, while wife was in Maine on a visit. His widow returned and later m. her widowed brother-in-law, Alexander Tapley.

TAPLEY, DAVID (1820-1894)
Sunbury County / M.L.A.Born 12 Apr 1820, at Sheffield, Sunbury Co, NB. Of Colonial English ancestry. Eldest s/o David Tapley (b. 27 May 1791 - d. 30 Nov 1869), ship builder, and h/w Hannah Fletcher, both residents of Sunbury County, Educated at the Sheffield Public School.
Located at Sheffield, Sunbury County, NB, and engaged in farming and lumber surveying.
Married 19 Nov 1841, to Miss Margaret Ann Dalton, d/o Samuel Dalton. Family of two sons and five daughters.
Unsuccessfully contested Sunbury County for the House of Assembly at the G.E. of 1854. First elected as one of the members for Sunbury County at the G.E. of 1857, with Wm. E. Perley (qv) as colleague. Sat that short Legislature which was disolved in 1857. Re-elected at the G.E. of May 1857, and sat that Legislature until its dissolution in 1861. At the G.E. of June 1861, he was defeated by three votes. Mr. John Glasier (qv), the renouned "Lumber King of the St. John River" was the successful candidate. He subsequently retired from active politics.
He subsequently moved to St. John, NB, and in 1864 he was appointed the first Police Magistrate and Judge of the Civil Court of the Town of Portland, which position he held until 1889, when Portland was united with St. John. In 1876, he commenced the study of law and was admitted to the Bar of NB as Attorney, Oct 1879, and as Barrister, Oct 1880. He successfully conducted alegal practice until his decease. He took an active interest in religioous, fraternal and social life in the community. Member of the A.F. & A.M.; Vestryman of St. Luke's Anglican Church. He died 19 Jul 1894, at his residence, St John, NB, aged seventy-four years. Buried in Fernhill Cemetery, St. John, NB. His wife, and five daughters pre-deceased him. Mrs. Tapley died 26 Sep 1885, aged sixty-three years. Survived by two sons.

The Tapley family in America was founded by John Tapley, who was born in Naildon, Devonshire, England in 1638. He emigrated to America and settled in Mass. On December 6th, 1663, he married at Salem, Mass, Elizabeth Pride,
daughter of John Pride of that place. John, their son, was born 7 Apr 1669, at Salem. He m. March ...., Anne, d/o Peter Lewis of Kittery. Their eldest son, William, lived at Portsmouth, and married on 19 Mar 1726, Rebecca Brian, and had a family of nine children.
James, their eight child, born 16 Feb 1754, lived in Boston, MA, and was a ship builder. In 1782, he went to Ireland and engaged in shipbuilding. About 1792 he returned to America, went up the St. John River and settled at Oromocto, where he died, 10 Feb 1799. While in Ireland, he m. Mary O'Brien, and had a family of six children.Ref: - see source list for more proper citation names
