YOUNGHUSBAND, GEORGE (1758-1807)
SAINT JOHN CITY & COUNTY  / MLA  / ST JOHN CITY

    George Younghusband was born 1758, in England. He was a  Loyalist.
    Came to St John in 1783 with the other Loyalists, and was one of the original grantees of the city, drawing Lot No. 1117. (Oct 1787, describes himself as a mariner). He was an active and influential citizen. Was an alderman in 1803. Member of the Artillery Company in 1795.

    At the second GE for the House of Assembly, December 1792, he was elected as one of the number for the City and County of Saint John, and sat that Legislature. At the GE of 1795, he was elected as member for the City if St John with Dr. Nathan Smith (qv) as colleague. Re-elected at the GE of October1802, and sat te session of 1803. Failing health apparently prevened his further attendance in the Legislature.
      In 1806, he made a trip to the West Indies, but on his way back, he was taken ill at Baltimore, Maryland, and died there May 23rd 1807. He was survived by his widow and eight children.

    George Younghusband was a grantee of land in St. John and probably never lived upon his Kingston grant. His name appears as one of those who signed a petition of protest against the election in 1786 of Jonathan Bliss, Ward Chipman as members of the first Legislature Assembly of the Province.
    He was a member of the Loyal Artillery Co. in 1795, an alserman of the city in 1803, one of the subscribers to the Coffee House Subscription Room in 1809 and later a member of the Legislature.
Second record -
    George Younghusband, although drew lot in Kingston never seems to have lived there. Also mention of a man by that name in St. John.
Notes on GEORGE YOUNGHUSBAND.
    This man probably lived in St. John and never settled on his lot in Kingston parish. His name appears as one of those who signed a petition of protest against the election in 1786 of Jonathan Bliss, Ward Chipman and other representative of St John in the first Assembly of the province.
    His name also appears as one of the subscribers to the Coffee House Subscription Room in 1804. These references are to be found in the collection of the NB Historical Society, part 6, p.455 and part 7, p.66.
    A George Younghusband is also mentioned as a member of the legislature at one time.
