#7 A Royal VisitIn the summer of 1794 New Brunswick was visited by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, the father of Queen Victoria. Prince Edward prided himself as being a soldier and he was extremely active in the discharging of his duties in those regards. Prince Edward lived for several years in Halifax and was the Commander-in-Chief of all British forces in North America.
Prince Edward arrived at Saint John from Annapolis on the 16 th of June 1794. The Prince arrived in the HMS Zebra a sloop of war. Upon his arrival the Prince was greeted by Governor Carleton. The Governor and the Prince then traveled to Fredericton where they arrived on June 21 St. On the 22 CD His Royal Highness received addresses from the Council and inhabitants of York County and he inspected the New Brunswick Regiment. On June 23 rd the Prince embarked for Saint John where he inspected the battery and ordinance stores. The next day June 24 th the Prince left for Annapolis on the same ship which he had arrived.
