The markers in red have shown a faster mutation rate then the average, and therefore these markers are very helpful at splitting lineages into sub sets, or branches, within your family tree.

Note: To calculate the number of mutations for these 4 fast moving markers, eliminate matches regardless of position in the chart. The remaining pair(s) is the total number of mutations.

Example:
15-16-17-18
14-15-16-18

Eliminating the pairs 15, 16, and 18 leaves one mismatched pair, 14/17. This equates to one mutation.

FAMILY 6 - Haplogroup R1b1 is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
