Oppland kirkebøker - parish records
About this list:
I have compiled the information on this list from the
LDS Family History Catalog as well as from information from the web site
of the
Norwegian National Archives.
It contains a list of the parish records -
kirkebøker - from
Oppland that have been microfilmed. Parish records that have not been microfilmed
are not included in this list, and these parish records can only be viewed
at the Norwegian State Archive if they are more than 60 years old.
I have translated the word
prestegjeld
as "clerical district" and the word
sokn as "parish". This is the
convention used in the LDS Family History Catalog.
The parish records of Oppland are divided
into the following three geographic regions:
1. Gudbrandsdalen
2. Toten, Hadeland and Land; and
3. Valdres
Gudbrandsdalen:
Dovre
Dovre parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1842-1929.
Dovre clerical district was separated out from Lesja clerical district
in 1860. Dovre clerical district included Øvre Folldal parish until
1863 when this parish was transferred to Alvdal clerical district in Hedmark

Fron
Fron parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1799-1930.
By royal resolution dated 10 August 1850, with effect as of the same date,
Fron clerical district was divided into two clerical districts:
Nord-Fron
and
Sør-Fron. Parish records after that
date are therefore located among the records of these two respective clerical
districts.
Note: In a fire of the Fron vicarage in 1806,
large portions of the Fron parish records were lost.
Nord-Fron
Nord-Fron parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1799-1930. Prior to 1850 Nord-Fron clerical district was a parish in the
Fron
clerical district. For parish records before 1849 see

Sør-Fron
Sør-Fron parish records are available on microfilm for the time
period 1799-1930. Prior to 1850 Nord-Fron clerical district was a parish
in the
Fron clerical district. For parish records records
before 1849 see

Fåberg
Fåberg parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1727-1924. Fåberg clerical district consists of the parishes Fåberg,
Saksumdal and Mesna. It also included Lillehammer parish until 1903 when
this parish was separated out and became
Lillehammer
clerical district.
Gausdal
Gausdal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1693-1923.
Gausdal was divided into two clerical districts in 1878: Østre Gausdal
and Vestre Gausdal. For parish records after 1878; see

Østre Gausdal
Østre Gausdal parish records are available on microfilm for the
time period 1693-1923. Østre Gausdal clerical district was separated
out from Gausdal clerical district in 1878. It consists of the parishes
Gausdal and Follebu (Folleboe). For parish records before 1874 see
Gausdal
clerical district.
Vestre Gausdal
Vestre Gausdal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1817-1925. Vestre Causdal clerical district consists of the parishes Nykirke
and Svatsum (Svadsum). Vestre Gausdal clerical district was separated out
from Gausdal clerical district in 1878. For earlier records see

Lesja
Lesja parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1724-1931.
Lesja clerical district consists of the parishes Lesja (Læssø)
and Lesjaskog. It also included Dovre parish until 1860, when Dovre parish
was separated out to become
Dovre clerical district.
Lillehammer
Lillehammer parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1837-1929. Lillehammer clerical district was separated out from Fåberg
clerical district in 1903. For earlier records see

Lom
Lom parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1733-1922.
Lom clerical district consists of the parishes Lom, Garmo and Bøverdal.
It also included the parishes of Skjåk and Nordberg until 1863, when
these two parishes were separated out from Lom clerical district to establish
the new
Skjåk clerical district.
Ringebu
Ringebu parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1696-1922.
Ringebu clerical district consists of the parishes Ringebu, Fåvang
(Fodevang) and Venabygd (Vennebygd). It also included Sollia parish
until 1862 when Sollia became its own clerical district and was transferred
to Hedmark county. (See

Sel
Sel parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1886-1924.
Sel clerical district consists of Sel and Heidal (Hedal) parishes. These
two parishes were separated out from
Vågå
clerical district in 1910 to form the new Sel clerical district.

Skjåk
Skjåk parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1815-1932. Skjåk clerical district consists of the parishes Skjåk
(Skiåker) and Nordberg. These were separated out from Lom clerical
district in 1863 to form the new Skjåk clerical district. For parish

Vågå
Vågå parish records are available on microfilm for the time
period 1736-1924. Vågå clerical district included Sel and Heidal
(Hedal) parishes until 1910 when Sel and Heidal parishes were separated
out to become
Sel clerical district.
Øyer
Øyer parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1671-1929. Øyer clerical district consists of the parishes Øyer
(Øier) and Tretten (Trøtten).
Toten, Hadeland and Land:
Balke
Balke parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1695-1933.
Balke parish became its own clerical district in 1831. Prior to that it
belonged to
Østre Toten clerical districts.

Biri
Biri parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1730-1921.
Biri clerical district consists of the parishes Biri and Snertingdal with
Segård and Nykirke chaples.
Note: Church records for the years 1789-1814 and
1854-1877 were destroyed in a fire on 12 September l890.
Brandbu
Brandbu parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1707-1917.
In 1897, Brandbu and Tingelstad parishes were separated out from
Gran
clerical district to establish Brandbu clerical district. The LDS Family
History Library has all of the Brandbu parish records listed under
Gran
clerical district.
Gjøvik
Gjøvik parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1878-1922. Gjøvik clerical district was separated out from Vardal
clerical district in 1861. For earlier records see

Gran
Gran parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1707-1917.
Gran clerical district consists of the parishes Gran, Brandbu, and Tingelstad.
Jevnaker
Jevnaker parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1718-1918. Jevnaker clerical district consists of Jevnaker parish with
Randsfjord chapel. It included Lunner parish until 1906, when Lunner was
separated out and established as
Lunner clerical
district.
Kolbu
Kolbu parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1814
- 1925. Kolbu clerical district consists of the parishes Kolbu and Eina.
They were separated out from
Vestre Toten clerical
district in 1915. For earlier records see

Land
Land parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1708-1932.
In 1866 Land clerical district was divided into
Nordre
Land and
Søndre Land clerical districts.
The LDS Family History Library has all of the parish records from the original
Land clerical district listed under
Søndre
Land clerical district.
Nordre Land
Nordre Land parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1847-1931. Nordre Land clerical district consists of the parishes Østsinni
(Gårder) with Vølstad chapel, Nordsinni (Hogner) and Torpa
(Åmot) with Kinn and Lunde chapels. This clerical district was originally
part of a larger
Land clerical district until 1866,
when this larger clerical district was divided into Søndre Land
and Nordre Land clerical districts. For earlier parish records see

Søndre Land
Søndre Land parish records are available on microfilm for the time
period 1708-1932. Søndre Land clerical district consists of the
parishes Fluberg with Landåsbygd chapel, and Søndre Land (Hov)
with Skut and Egner chapels. This clerical district belonged to the combined
Land
clerical district until 1866, when Land clerical district was divided into
Søndre Land and
Nordre Land clerical
districts.
Lunner
Lunner parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1896-1933.
Lunner clerical district consists of the parishes Lunner with chapels in
Grua and Opdalen. These parishes were part of Jevnaker clerical district
until 1906, when they were separated out to form the new Lunner clerical

Toten
In 1825 Toten clerical district was divided into two new clerical districts:
Østre
Toten and
Vestre Toten. Østre
Toten clerical district consists of Hof parish with Nordli and Kapp chapels,
and also included Balke parish until 1831. Vestre Toten clerical
district consists of Ås parish with Raufoss chapel, and also included
the parishes Kolbu and Eina until 1915. The LDS Family History Library
Catalog lists the parish records of the original, combined
Toten
clerical district under
Østre Toten clerical
district. For parish records after 1814 for the parishes of Ås
with Raufoss chapel, Kolbu, and Eina, see
Vestre
Toten clerical district.
Østre Toten
Østre Toten parish records are available on microfilm for the time
period 1695-1933. Østre Toten clerical district consists of
Hof parish with Nordli and Kapp chapels. It also included Balke parish
until 1831 when
Balke became its own clerical district.
Østre Toten clerical district belonged to the combined
Toten
clerical district until 1825, when Toten clerical district was divided
into Østre Toten and
Vestre Toten clerical
districts. The LDS Family History Library Catalog lists the parish
records of the original, combined Toten clerical district under Østre
Toten clerical district.
Vestre Toten (Ås)
Vestre Toten parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1814-1928. Vestre Toten clerical district consists of Ås parish with
Raufoss chapel. It also included the parishes Kolbu and Eina until 1915,
when these two parishes were separated out to form the new
Kolbu
clerical district. Vestre Toten clerical district belonged to the combined
Toten
clerical district until 1825. For earlier records see

Vardal
Vardal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1706-1934.
Vardal clerical district consists of the parishes Vardal and Hunn. It included
Gjøvik parish until 1861 when this parish was separated out to form
the new
Gjøvik clerical district.
Valdres:
Aurdal
Aurdal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1692-1932.
Aurdal was one clerical district until 1805 when it was divided into Nord-Aurdal
clerical district and Sør-Aurdal clerical district. The LDS Family
History Library has the microfilms of the parish records prior to 1805
listed under
Nord-Aurdal clerical district.

Nord-Aurdal
Nord-Aurdal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1692-1932. Aurdal was one clerical district (called
Aurdal)
until 1805 when it was divided into Nord-Aurdal clerical district and
Sør-Aurdal
clerical district. The LDS Family History Library has the microfilms of
the parish records of the original Aurdal clerical district prior to 1805
listed under Nord-Aurdal clerical district. The Nord-Aurdal clerical district
consists of the parishes Aurdal, Svenes, Ulnes, Strand, and Skrautvål.
It included Nordre Etnedal parish until 1894, when this parish and Bruflat
parish in
Sør-Aurdal clerical district
were separated out to become the
Etnedal clerical
district.
Sør-Aurdal
Sør-Aurdal parish records are available on microfilm for the time
period 1807-1929. Sør-Aurdal clerical district consists of
the parishes Bagn (Sør-Aurdal), with Leirskogen chapel, Reinli,
Begndal and Hedal. It included Bruflat parish until 1894 when Bruflat became
part of the newly established
Etnedal clerical district.
Sør-Aurdal clerical district was originally part of the larger Aurdal
clerical district, but in 1805 Aurdal clerical district was divided into
Nord-Aurdal clerical district and Sør-Aurdal clerical district.
Parish records prior to 1805 are listed under
Nord-Aurdal
clerical district.
Note: The parish records for Bruflat parish for
1849-1876 were destroyed during World War II in the spring of 1945.
Etnedal
Etnedal parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1866-1910.
Etnedal clerical district consists of two parishes: Bruflat and Nordre
Etnedal. Bruflat parish was separated out from
Sør-Aurdal
clerical district and Nordre Etnedal parish was separated out from
Nord-Aurdal
clerical district in 1894. Sør-Aurdal and Nord-Aurdal clerical districts
had been created 89 years earlier, in 1805, when
Aurdal
clerical district was divided in two. The LDS Family History Library has
its microfilmed parish records relating to Etnedal listed as follows:

Slidre
Slidre parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1725-1930.
Slidre clerical district was divided into two clerical districts in 1848:
Øystre
Slidre and
Vestre Slidre.
Øystre Slidre
Øystre Slidre parish records are available on microfilm for the
time period 1814-1927. Øystre Slidre clerical district includes
the parishes of Hegge, Volbu and Rogne. This clerical district belonged
to the combined
Slidre clerical district until 1848
when Slidre clerical district was divided into Øystre Slidre and
Vestre
Slidre clerical districts. For earlier records see

Vestre Slidre
Vestre Slidre parish records are available on microfilm for the time period
1725-1930. Vestre Slidre clerical district consists of the parishes
Slidre, Lomen and Røn (Røen). This clerical district belonged
to the combined
Slidre clerical district until 1848,
when the Slidre clerical district was divided into
Øystre
Slidre and Vestre Slidre clerical districts. Vestre Slidre clerical
district was created from Slidre, Lomen, and Røn parishes in the
original
Slidre clerical district.
Vang
Vang parish records are available on microfilm for the time period 1730-1925.
Vang clerical district consists of the parishes Vang (Valdres), Øye
(Øie) and Hurum.
