State of Maine

 

LS AT a Court of probate held at Portland, within and for the County of Cumberland, on the fourth tues day [28th] of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty one before me, Albion K. Parish Esquire, Judge of the said Court.

WHEREAS the Instrument hereunto annexed, has been presented to me as the last will and testament of Jonathan Philbrick late of Standish in said County, Gentlemen, deceased by Sarah Philbrick, one of the Executors therein named, and due notice thereof, all of the time and place appointed by me for taking the probate of the same, has been given to the heirs of said deceased, and to all persons of interest therein, by an advertizement (sic) published three weeks successively in the Eastern Argus[#1]: and whereas it is proved to me by the testimony of all the subscribing witnesses, that the said Instrument was signed, sealed, and published by the said Jonathan Philbrick as his last will and testament, and that at the time of executing the same, the said Jonathan Philbrick was of sane mind; and it further appearing to me, the same was attested in his presence by three credible witnesses whose names are thereunto subscribed:

I do therefore, by virtue of the power and authority given to me, in and by the laws of the State aforesaid, hereby approve and allow of the said Instrument as the last will and testament of said deceased, in order that the same be recorded.

Note #2:Albion Keith Parris (19 Jan 1788 - 11 Feb 1857) was nominated by President James Monroe to become Probate Judge for Cumberland County, 27 Jan 1818. He was confirmed by the Senate the next day and served as a judge until 1 Jan 1822, when he resigned to become the Governor of Maine until 1827. -FLR-

Note #3: Maine became the 23rd state on 15 Mar 1820. -FLR-
