Clarence H Philbrook, son of Frank M and Ann Philbrook, was born in Normal,
Illinois, July 1, 1868 and died Friday, November 6, 1953 at the age of 85 years,
4 months and 6 days.
When he was a year old his parents came to Kansas and homesteaded ten miles
south of Barnes, in Washington County. There he grew to manhood. He was married
to Iva Arrena Lidy on December 15, 1892. To this union were born five children:
Hazel M Sleigh of Fairbury, Nebraska; Merrill F, Vivian G Townsend and Lola L
Justis, all of Washington, and Lowell F of Garden Grove, California, all of whom
survive him.
He engaged in farming and dairying all his life. In 1911 he and his family moved
to the farm joining Washington on the west and lived there until he retired in
1942.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva, November 18, 1933. He leaves to mourn
his death besides his five children, one brother Herbert C Philbrook and two
sisters, Eva L and Grace Philbrook, all of Salina, Kansas; also seven
grandchildren; Phil and Kenneth Philbrook of Washington, Dorothy Jacobson of
Junction City, KS; Max Townsend of Concord, California; Donald and Richard
Sleigh, both in the navy; and Jeff Justis of Washington. Three
great-grandchildren, Linda and Douglas Philbrook of Washington, and Susan
Townsend of Concord, California.
He was a kind husband and father and had many friends in this community.
