Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for Mrs. Ida P. Goodyear of Somis, pioneer resident of Ventura country who has long been active in philanthropic and civic affairs and who was first president of the Somis Thursday Club.

The services were lead by the Rev Thomas Grice of Camarillo Heights, who had been a long time friend of Mrs. Goodyear. Following the rites at the Diffenderiffer and Son's mortuary in Oxnard, cremation took place at Ivy Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Goodyear was born IDA PHILBROOK IN BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS Sept 10, 1873. In 1877, she moved to DUARTE,CALIF, with her parents and in 1879 the family came to Ventura county, settling first in the Simi district and later in the Conejo and Ocean View areas.
August 18, 1891, she married William E. Goodyear. After their marriage the Goodyears began farming in the Ocean View area and a few years later purchased a ranch in Somis. The 190 acre tract soon became one of the most productive in the county.

Goodyear Maternity Hospital.

Mrs. Goodyear was for many years active in Red Cross, cancer work and in county tuberculosis and infantile paralysis programs. In addition to these charities, she came to the aid of many other projects on her own initiative. The list of those whom she has helped is lengthy.
Long time members of the Somis Thursday Club recall that Mrs. Goodyear was active in the club from its start in 1910 and was instrumental in its organization. It is estimated that her donations to the club amounted to well over $4,000.
