MILLBURY-- Virginia E. (Lantz) Philbrook, 89, of 16 Raymond St., a former
teacher, died yesterday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 52 years, Leslie W.C. Philbrook; two sons, Harold L.
Philbrook of Jordanville, N.Y. and William A. Philbrook of Sutton; five
grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Springfield, daughter of
Harold F. and Carrie B. (French) Lantz, and lived in Worcester before moving to
Millbury in 1946. She graduated from North High School and the State Normal
School, both in Worcester. Mrs. Philbrook was a kindergarten teacher at
Canterbury Street School in Worcester in the 1940s, and later was a substitute
teacher at East Millbury School. She was a member of Raymond Memorial Church, a
past president of its Women's Fellowship, and a Sunday school teacher. She was
also a member of the Lake View Congregational Church Agenda Club in Worcester,
Worcester County Christian Endeavor, the Millbury Council on Aging, and Church
Women United of Millbury and Sutton.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45
Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours
are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
