SOMIS RANCHER TAKES OWN LIFE
Fear of Becoming A Burden Is Reason Given for Act of W. E. Goodyear
William E Goodyear of near Somis, age 73, ended his life at his home Sunday
morning by slashing his throat with a razor. Heart trouble, despondency, and the
fear that he would become a burden to relatives are given as the cause for his
act.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2'oclock at the Diffenderfer
Mortuary in Oxnard under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. Cremation followed
at Santa Barbara.
Mr. Goodyear was born in Minnesota and came to Ventura County nearly 40 years
ago. He was for many years of the Las Posas Water Company and took an active
part in the formation of the Zone Mutual Water System a few years ago, and since
their formation had been president of Zone No 1 Mutual Water Company. He had
also been a strong booster and faithful member of the county chamber of commerce
since its formation.
The local community and the entire county feel a distinct loss in the passing of
this pioneer, who had long been loved and respected as an able and hard-working
rancher, a kind and courteous neighbor, and an efficient and fair-dealing
businessman.
He is survived by his widow and one sister, Mrs. W. L. Ferguson, of Ventura.
