After OCS I went to pilot training. Moore AB, TX for primary and Webb AFB,
TX for Basic. After graduation my first assignment was MATS, Charleston AFB, SC.
After 2 1/2 years of flying C-121-C's I transitioned to C-130E's.
In Aug 63 moved to Patrick AFB, Fl as the MAC/LO to the AFETR. Real good
job still flew C130's out of CHS. Next was my hardship tour, Ramey AFB, PR.
Three years of golf and flying the Caribbean in a C-54 or a Cessna 310. Real
tough but all good things come to an end.
Next off to war and my tour in RVN. I was an Airlift controller for the
834 AD at TSN. Good job, but busier than the dickens.
I got my SAC tour after RVN with an assignment to Grissom AFB, In. Was
supposed to fly tankers but I was an Aircraft Maintenance Squadron CO for three
years. Flew C-47 and T29's.
In 70 it was on to Langley and the cockpit. C-130E's, it felt like old
home week. Served as Squadron Operations Off, Squadron Exec and Wing Stan
Evaluation Officer. Bootstrap at W&M and was staring an assignment to Pope
and I came to the Hills of Tennessee in Sept 77.
Settled in Elizabethton, TN. Went to work as a HR Mgr. for a large rayon
mill, 1500 employees. In 86 moved to Greeneville, TN, my home as Corp HR Dir.
for an International Tobacco wholesaler. Flew Citation, Kingair 200 and Cessna
310 for fun.
Retired again in 91 and ended up working as a Consultant in Occupational
Medicine for a local hospital. It's fun to do something you have helped write
the book about. I work part-time, name my own hours, generally, play golf and
fish. I serve on a numbers of boards and committees, mostly dealing with
education and our community.
Oh yes I am at the disposal of my BOSS for any number of Honeydoos.
Life is short my friends, Let's live to the fullest.
