The following obituary for Joseph Edward
"Ned" Pedigo was copied from an uncited Oklahoma Newspaper.
NED PEDIGO
Services for Ned Pedigo of Garber, an eld-time minstrel, vaudeville and circuit
entertainer, will be held at 2:30 pm. Sunday at the Garber Christian church with Rev.
Orval Holt officiating. Burial will be in the Garber cemetery.
Pedigo, who had been ill the past ten months with a heart ailment, died at
his home in Garber Friday morning.
News of his death brought sorrow to his family and many friends and to all
those old-time show troopers who used to make the minstrel shows, the vaudeville and
circuses circuits before motion pictures came along to crowd them from the scent. [sic]
Ned Pedigo truly was an old trooper. He spent most of his life in that
business until about 15 years ago when he moved to Garber and settled down to a normal
life.
Only a few years ago, a golden guitar was presented to Mr. Pedigo as a
tribute to his long service as an end man in the Al Fields minstrel show.
A small man, with sparkling eyes and a grin that just would not wear off,
Mr. Pedigo was a typical entertainer. Even in his late years of life, he enjoyed amusing
both children and adults.
HIS HEALTH FAILED -- Ten months ago his health failed and he was in an
Enid hospital for some weeks. Later he was taken to his home, where death came.
He was a native of Kentucky. He leaves his wife, Maggie, of the home,
three sons, Oliver Wendall "Spec" Pedigo of Garber, Merrill and Farland of
Yankton, S.D., four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Pedigo of Marshall.
The Anderson funeral home of Garber is caring for the body. |
