Barnabus McGuire 1818 Affadavit.

Pennsylvania Westmoreland County

Personally came before the subscriber Justice President of the Court of Common Pleas of the tenth Judicial District of Pennsylvania Barney McGuire of the said county of Westmoreland and being duly sworn on his oath deposeth and saith, That he enlisted the first day of July 1775 in Captain William Hendricks Company of Riflemen for one year, in Cumberland County Penna That this deponent was marched to Boston, and from that to Quebec under Col Arnold. and was taken prisoner the 31st Day of December in the same year at the same time Genl McGomery was killed. after being detained about eight months at Quebec this Deponent with eight others made their escape. In 1776 this deponent enlisted in a company under the command of Col Thomas Robison, in the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment commanded by Colonel James Chambers and served in that Regiment for five years when he was honorably discharged, at Little York in Penna. And that his discharge was signed by Col Thomas Robison. That the said discharge was forwarded to the war office about twenty years ago with his application for a pension which was allowed to him, and which he has drawn ever since. This deponent saith that he was frequently wounded in Battle and was discharged on account of disability, to perform further service. The said deponent further saith that from his reduced circumstances he needs the assistance of his country for support.

Be it remembered that Barney McGuire the within named applicant acknowledged before me that he signed sealed and delivered the within Release of his pension heretofore granted by the Laws of the United States as & for his act and Deed for the purposes therin mentioned. Witness my hand and seal this 15th Day of April A D 1818

I certify that it appears to my satisfaction that the above named Barney McGuire performed the Service in the Pennsylvania Line against the Common Enemy in the War of the Revolution as set forth in the testimony hereto annexed. Witness my hand & seal this 15 April A D 1818

I do further certify that the above named Barney McGuire is poor and without any means of support but by his personal labour which by reason of his age of infirmity he is but little capable of exercising.

I, John Morrison Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Westmoreland and do certify that John Young, Esq. before whom the annexed deposition was taken and by whom it is signed, and whom the foregoing certificate is signed, and before whom the foregoing Deed of Release was acknowledged was at the time of so doing & now is President of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the said County of Westmoreland in the Tenth Judicial District of Pennsylvania.
