The following short biography has been found in "Presidents, Soldiers, Statesmen" published by Hardisty, Volume I in 1898:
George McGuire.."Was born in Westmoreland County, Pa. in 1820; his father, Robert McGuire, born in Carlisle Pa., is deceased, as is also his mother, Mary (Easter); at the age of 4l, he enlisted June 30, 1861 at Freeport, Armstrong Co., as a corporal in Co. G, 11th Pa. Res.. Inf. 3rd Brig, 3rd Div., 6th A. C. and with his command participated in the battles of Mechanicsville, Gaines' Mills, and Fredericksburg, at which the latter battle he was wounded in the left thigh and left wrist, for which he received treatment in Herwood hospital four or five months. He was furloughed for sixty days in 1863; the year previous he was captured in June, at Gaines Mills, by rebels, and held prisoner in Libby for twenty days; at Herwood hospital he received his final discharge, April 23, 1863; McGuire married in Freeport, Armstrong county, Pa. in 1860 Mary M.. Duff, born in Allegheny County, in 1808; her parents, John and Sarah (Mcgarry) Duff are deceased. The first wife of our subject, Jane Nolder), bore him eight children, Mary Ann, James, Robert, Samuel, Albert, George, Nancy and Martha. The present Mrs. McGuire had one son killed at the battle of Antietam. Comrade McGuire settled in Butler County in 1866, draws a pension, is a miner, and his address is Great Belt, Butler county, Pa.".
