Notes for John Nolder:

He served in the Revolutionary War in the Ranger of the Frontier division. Troop of the Light Horse Company from 1778-1783. Had a land grant in Cherry Run, Armstrong Co. Came with a brother to Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1770's. According to PA Archives, 3rd Series, Vol. XXVI, he received 150 acres in Westmoreland Co., now Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co. for his services in the Revolution.

Will of John Nolder Sr. (1753-1823)

For the name of god, amen, I, John Nolder --- of Plum Creek Township, Armstrong County being sick and weak in body but of sound memory and understanding and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and that all man must die when it shall please God to call I do make this my last will and testament in manner and following: first I leave an bequeath to my son, John, the one hundred acres that I now live on and also all the Bottom of Big Run or high as the upper field half up the hill from the fields on the condition that the said John shall keep and support his mother and father during our lives in witness where of we hereunto subscribe our names this 18th day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Twenty-Two.

Robert and his parents were driven by the Indians from the point at Pittsburgh up the Allegheny River to Armstrong Co., near Kittanning, PA. Together with other men, he helped clear and break ground, then settled there.
