Alvin Edward and Mary Alice White Hannah
and Family
Alvin Edward Hannah (1870-1916) and Mary Alice (White) Hannah (1872-1968)
were married in Christian Co., MO on September 07, 1890. Alvin was a successful
farmer and land owner when he died in 1916 from an accident on the farm.
Alvin and Mary Alice raised 16 children, the last to be born a few weeks
after the death of Alvin.
Alvin moved to Christian Co. from Cass Co. MO as a young boy. Alvin was orphaned
when he was about 12 years of age. His guardian J.C. Brazeale managed his
estate very well and when he married he was able to buy 40 acres of land
for himself and his new bride to build their first home on.
Mary Alice was born in Christian Co. to John Holland White and Octavia Melton
White. Mary Alice' grandfather Thomas Lewis White was one of the first settlers
in Christian Co. having moved from Marshall Co., Tennessee around 1860. I
was lucky enough to have known my great-grandmother and remember her fondly.
One thing that I remember was her strong independence. Around 1960 her
children decided that she should not live alone at the farm anymore, so she
went to live with one of her sons. After awhile he decided that she needed
her independence so he build her a small four room house on his property.
She lived there for several years until she died at the age of 95.
